Probably would've been better to go the full cutesy CGI animation route because I think based on the "hints" we're getting, this design is gonna offput even the younger audience they're targeting with this movie.

Detective Pikachu is the adaptation of the 3DS game where a kid and a talking Pikachu investigate in a big city that looks very much like the real world.

There's a reason it's a movie based on this and not about catching Pokémon to become a Master Trainer.

Nice try, but you failed ^^"

People have no right to complain about fuzzy Pikachu ever again.

For all the initial complaints, DP Pikachu is ultimately just Pikachu rendered realistically, it's the exact same design. This rubbish Sonic on the other hand doesn't even have the same silhouette.

You know how to get Sonic right in a movie, as far as looks go?

Uhh, how about this: keep the exact same design and try to render it as photorealistically as possible. IT FUCKING WORKED FOR THE POKÉMON CHARACTERS, DIDN'T IT???? Do that instead that terrifying, Jim Carrey Grinch-looking hideousness.

Or better yet: make it an animated movie. The Sonic design from the Wreck-It Ralph films is absolutely perfect, and some characters just aren't made for live-action. Look at Mario, he's getting an animated film after that live-action disaster from 1993, and in all honesty, he shouldn't have ever been made live-action to begin with. Mario simply doesn't work in live-action, and it's likely that neither does Sonic.
