I definitely think the Jim Carrey factor is something to take into account, this feels like a return to form for him after a very long drought.

It appears to be a return to form for Carrey in the sense that he's returning to his hyper-cartoonish style from the 90s, which is the best version of Jim Carrey (second best is Eternal Sunshine's melancholy).

The question is, how is the film around Carrey designed. If the rest of the film is just as cartoonish as Carrey, his act might get overwhelming quick.

Take "The Mask". My favorite Carrey film. Absolutely bonkers insane. However, the dark gothic tone still grounds the film. A truly menacing villain. A well written love interest. Character stakes. There's a degree of nuance.

If Sonic is all zany, no nuance, Carrey's performance may be more grating than endearing.

This could either turn out well, or it could be a huge disaster :). I was more of a Sega fanatic for the arcade (AM2) division (Virtua Fighter, House of the Dead, etc). I know though, that Sonic has a loyal fanbase. If the producers were truly honest about correcting the issues, fine. If it was just PR lip service to get the fans into the theater despite the changes...the backlash will be vicious :D.

They gave the character a human like appearance. The source character has a large head with jagged "hair" on top, with a little torso, and small arms and legs. The producers instead gave it human like proportions. I hope it all works out.

I'd love to see a Panzer Dragoon sci-fi fantasy adaptation, maybe House of the Dead as well.
