The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies OS Thread | 700M OS passed

Recommended Posts

I am with Noctis... I dare not go higher than 750 Mio right now. Why do you, Asylus, think the exchange rate will not affect BO? The Euro and Rubel have lost so much compared to the Dollar since last year.

Barely agree but finale factor and strong marketing will secure it.

I agree with both Noctis and ShouldIBeHere. Something similar happened to LOTR but positively. Did you know that FOTR was the most attended in many big countries? The problem for FOTR (or the advantage for ROTK) was the exchange rate. In 2001, 1€ = 0.9$. In 2003, 1€ = 1.21$.

According Lumiere web, which adds lots of data of several countries, you have that in European Union, FOTR sold 58 million admissions and ROTK "just" 52. An example: FOTR sold in Germany 11.8 million admissions and ROTK, 10.4 million. 1.4 million more for FOTR, but even with that, FOTR $78m vs ROTK $87m.

FOTR: http://lumiere.obs.coe.int/web/film_info/?id=17253

ROTK: http://lumiere.obs.coe.int/web/film_info/?id=20301

The difference between currencies is quite important. This year it seems that it is not so huge as it was with FOTR and ROTK, but I am worried about it. Chinese release date seems to be quite better than previous two entries, what could compensate the inevitable drop in Europe, but it is not locked. We'll see.

You flip flop so much. It's so annoying.

BOFA grossed 11.3 million at its first days, a value which is higher than TF4, MJ1, AUJ and DOS. 11.3 OS opening seems very huge according to some news so it has a decent chance of making 750 OS, but still not locked.

from our local thread

Hobbit 1 75.79 mln RUB OD

Hobbit 2 90.38 mln RUB OD

Hobbit 3 already 124.5 mln RUB reported on Rentrak. At least 130 mln RUB OD.

3rd best OD in 2014 after Transformers 4 (173.2 mln, summer) and How to Train Your Dragon 2 (144.4 mln, summer + national holiday).

could have had 22 mil OW here with old exchange rates  :(

I'll be happy if it at least will outgross DOS in local currency

 The main theatre chain here now completely pulled out Exodus from the schedule to make room for TH. It's a scheduling nightmare, because Exodus opened on the other smaller chains, but considering the main one owns about 75% of the market, the movie will likely suffer a slow death.
