Mulder
Bye, bitch. Show me a statement from anyone from the production team on Gremlins then, that the exact purpose of the Gremlins was to be symbolism for African Americans.

robertman2
Gremlins 1 being racist is yet another reason why Gremlins 2 is a much better movie!

In retrospect, Gremlins 2 now seems like a Trump PSA foreshadowing what his presidency would look like in a nutshell. Spoiler: An utter mess. That moment when you realize as an adult that all the eighties entertainment movies you watched and enjoyed as a kid are shock full of sinister racialist undertones, puritanism and conservative ideology.(That's why I hate this "geek" nostalgia putting those movies on a pedestal in a vacuum without analyzing them like they are innocuous piece of neutral fluff instead of that piece of constructed representation building entire ideologically driven narrative in our collective unconscious right from kindergarten age that is staunchly averse at challenging society's status-quo and shortcomings but only into reenforcing it. That's why you have violent and visceral reactions when a movie tries to challenge status-quo in the name of society's progress, they claim a "political agenda" forced upon them even though they've been spoonfed and bathing into political agenda movies all their lives without even realizing it. Every movie is political. Making art fir the collective massed is a political matter. Eisenstein perfectly knew that. So that's why I can't watch those insidious movies with rose-tinted glasses anymore). Edited February 12, 2017 by dashrendar44
