Extended Cameron wankery it is!

(Aside, what's your opinion on the Aliens extended edition?)

I like some of the extra scenes (in particular the remote sentry guns), and the revelation about Ripley's daughter is nice, but I think the extra colony scene (with the face hugger reveal) ruins some of the intensity of the arrival of Ripley and the marines.

If push comes to shove, I think the theatrical version is better.

The remote sentry guns are too badass. Gotta go with Director's Cut.

T2: Director's Cut though

Those sentry guns!  I remembered seeing them all the time on TV and then wondering why they weren't in them movie I owned on VHS.  I talked about them all the time to my friends, who had no idea what I was talking about.

When we first started renting DVD's at the Blockbuster where I was working at the time, I rented it and went to a friends house that actually ownded a DVD player!  I watched it and loved all the little revelations myself and then it got to the sentry guns, I almost wet myself out of excitement.

I have seen both versions myself and think that the theatrical is better for first timers because that this moves like nothing you've ever seen.   Then, if you want, go back and watch the Special Edition to learn a little more about it.

2003, with the same date schedule, shows a similar abnormal pattern. What gives? Is the Canadian holiday inflating Monday and deflating Tuesday somehow?

The scene with Sarah and Kyle is great.  Everything else is just a little fluff.

That scene just does not work for me. I'm glad it was cut to be honest. As fan service, I think it's nice, but the execution or something is all off.

The Abyss was my favorite movie for most of my 20s. I have a similar opinion about the The Abyss extended editions.  I enjoy the extended cut, but to me the film just works better in it's original theatrical form.  I think I'm just about the only person I know who feels that way.

I saw it five times in theaters, so I obviously liked even the theatrical cut quite a bit. That being said, I do think the extended edition helps the movie overall.
