Rsyu
I liked the trailer. Going to be optimistic and say $550M OS.
Quigley
Any particular reason for these inflated numbers? Apart from the social media traction in China, all arguments I read are "I liked the trailer so the film will do well"...
Rsyu
Any particular reason for these inflated numbers? Apart from the social media traction in China, all arguments I read are "I liked the trailer so the film will do well"... My prediction is based off on Maleficent's numbers. I think Cinderella will be of a higher quality and better received in most countries. Even if it doesn't do as well as Maleficent did, I don't see a sharp decrease happening. Quigley
But Maleficent trailers had more action. Cinderella just looks like the classical fairytale. Men will not be intrigued.
Rsyu
But Maleficent trailers had more action. Cinderella just looks like the classical fairytale. Men will not be intrigued. It's only the first trailer, maybe future trailers will have something else. Even if it doesn't though I'd think that families are the main target audience for a film like Cinderella so no worries. I just get the feeling that Cinderella is a more iconic fairy tale than Maleficent and audiences will respond to that.
xSabrinax
It semmed like another "Red Riding Hood". I liked some things in the trailer but not others. But I think it will do very well at box office, just because it's "Cinderella". Edited November 27, 2014 by xSabrinax
Hernan Gonzalez
Next year there is also a new Peter Pan movie with Hugh Jackman. I saw the trailer on his facebook page this week

kayumanggi
Here's the rule: 1. Tentpole franchise film releases (Essentially sequels to proven films with strong OS BO performances may have a discussion thread/club within 6 months of release... Every time I create a thread about a movie they tell me someone already created it and so they close it. This thread predates your thread, so it will be closed. Hernan Gonzalez
The new trailer looks boring... It seems like a movie for Disney Channel on a Sunday afternoon....

Fullbuster
The new trailer looks boring... It seems like a movie for Disney Channel on a Sunday afternoon.... Well, I'm not overly excited about it, I saw this story so many times in so many ways, but I know people will love it.
Hernan Gonzalez
Abroad, Cinderella is looking to charm another $50M-$60M in about 31 markets, roughly 60% of its international footprint. http://deadline.com/2015/03/cinderella-box-office-liam-neeson-run-all-night-1201390746/
picores
I think this will fall somewhere in between Maleficent (517m) and OZ (258m). 350-375m sounds great to me given the exchange rates.
Hernan Gonzalez
As a comparison... Cinderella will need a lot more in local currency to reach Maleficent numbers in $ and that won't happen. IMO $300m OS with this horrible exchange rate would be great. James
It's a family movie so it will likely have strong walk-ins, but right now presales look pretty weak. Also, CinemaCity gives it only 4 shows/day in most major cities which is just bad (for example, The Hobbit 3 had between 10 and 15). I doesn't really stand a chance at even coming close to Maleficent here. Edited March 13, 2015 by James
DAJK
I really don't understand exchange rates... what's that even about and how is it affecting Cinderella?
