warfreakbix
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but it is a big, glossy, expensive Disney film retelling a classic fairy tale in a genre where films like AIW made a killing. And following in the immediate wake of a MONSTER Disney hit. Happy, proud, whatever. But definitely not floored. Now if it broke a billion then I would be. I'm floored when less traditional, indie style films catch on at the box office, a genuine surprise. Say like Silver Linings Playbook which I loved but was odd as hell. But all other movies retelling a classic fairy tale wasn't a success like AIW, even Oz. If anything AIW is an exception not the norm. If Disney's live-action Cinderella is as much a success as Maleficent then we can make that kind of conclusion. So yes, Maleficent WW total is a huge accomplishment following those 2 medicore success. Especially considering their buget were similar to Mals, with OZ budget being $35 millon more, and SWATH's was only $10 million less.
