I found this to be much more enjoyable than the first in spite of the story being a retread-ish and the characters basically remaining the same throughout the movie as where Frozen leaves them. The Show Yourself sequence is stunning and is up there with Disney’s best musical scenes, and the song is infinitely superior to the ever irritating LIG. The music is much more tolerable and mature on the whole than the first and the humor is stronger.

I agree it helps balance the much more serious tone. The movie didn't feel as fluffy as the first but it felt more powerful and enthralling. My daughter said it was sooooo much better than the first. Granted she exaggates about everything (my fault).

I'm so surprised that I...I think the first one is better. I'm not even a big fan of it and I think the screenplay is awful, but I think it's more satisfying and structurally sound than this.

Watched this yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, while on holiday. The reactions didn't seem overly-thrilled. Like, people - myself included - were satisfied, but nowhere near the reactions of the first. 

 

Think it's a bare minimum effort sequel, tbh, decent, but forgettable. And that's especially clear with the music, where I can't remember a single song, even a day later. 

Still preferred it to Aladdin and The Lion King...

Yeah it's clear they had some rewrites and clearly had some other directions possibilities in mind at some point. I hope they talk about that a little in the DVD release or director's commentary, or maybe deleted scenes. At the same time they clearly wanted these characters to feel familiar so despite the 3-year time skip there was very little change in the characters. Also it always feels strange when there is a first movie and get to the end and that seems like the end and you are kind of invested in the characters motivations and you understand why they are happy with their ending. Then when a new sequel opens the world and characters suddenly have new motivations and also more complex backstories it can feel jarring. But multiple viewings usually lessens that feeling

But more emotional, meaningful and powerful.

In Frozen 1, only "Let It Go" has all these kinds of aspects. "Do you want to build a snowman" and "For The First Time Forever" are just catchy, sweet and cute, childish. They can not compete with other songs of Frozen 2 for the meaningful, emotional, powerful and mature aspects.

Just watched Frozen 1 again. Other than Let it go I like every other big song more in Frozen 2. Like Frozen 2 more, confirmed.

I think I still need a few more viewings to decide if I like Frozen 2 as much as (or even more) than Frozen.  I've seen it twice so far, and the second time it seemed better to me - maybe because I knew what to expect. On first watch it seemed a little rushed to me, like an additional 15-20 minutes would have made it so much better.

 

The Show Yourself sequence is truly amazing and in context the song is so powerful. I know that Disney doesn't want to give away what would clearly be a major spoiler, but I really think if they released that sequence on YouTube like they did with Let It Go from Frozen, it could potentially generate a good deal of interest in Frozen 2.

The Show Yourself sequence is incredible. Let It Go is definitely more catchy, but the visuals during the scene for Show Yourself is hugely impressive.

Wow! What a way for Walt Disney Animation to end the decade.

 

Show Yourself was mind blowingly EPIC!

 

If Disney wanted a way to fully tie up Elsa’s character arc they swung for the fences - and knocked it out of the park!

 

There’s so much to take in during song and scene it’s overwhelming.

 

An unforgettable- over the top - show stopping moment that only Disney could achieve - it’s why I love Walt Disney Animation so much, and it hold it close to my heart. Pure Magic.

 

That scene could go down as the best animated sequence in Walt Disney Animation history.

❄️❄️So glad F2 is doing so well. With those monster Tuesday and Wednesday numbers and a total that will be near or over $300m by the end of the weekend it looks like the odds of finishing over $500m domestic have gone up considerably.❄️❄️

 

I'm definitely going to see F2 again this weekend, as well as Knives out.😎

I want to see a Frozen 3 made so I can see more Youtube critics start their videos off complaining that Disney put the Olaf short in front of Coco, you know, a film, owned by Disney, which also owns Frozen so kinda makes sense.

Frozen (2013)

Unlike some other WDAS films my opinion of this film hadn't really changed upon rewatch. The plot is certainly a bit rushed and thin (the film feels oddly small compared to Tangled or Moana maybe due to the lack of different locations) but the heart of the film is so great that makes up for all the short comings. The songs get much praise but the actual score by Christophe Beck is fantastic. Anna remains one of my favourite Disney Princesses of all time and the sister bond is something we don't see explored enough in films let alone Disney films. 

Finally time to see the sequel tonight.
