I was going to wait until Christmas Day to see F2 for the 3rd time, but Cineplex Odeon sent me an email letting me know from Dec. 6-11 all movies in all formats are just 50% of the usual number of Scene points to see them.

I hoard my Scene points (I just used some to see the new Star Wars in VIP 19+ on it's opening Saturday so I can order a pitcher of beer and watch the movie in comfort), but I can't pass up a bargain, especially on a dead weekend like this , so I just bought a ticket for 1:45 tomorrow.

It looks like people like a bargain, it's already over 40% sold (103 of 236 seats sold).

Soundtrack hit #1 this week selling 80K. Its the first animated movie soundtrack to hit #1 since Frozen did it back in 2014 lol

 feels like this is right about where the original will jump ahead of the sequel in day-to-day tracking. Completely expected of course, the original Frozen absolutely blew up over the Christmas holiday and then its legendary legs kicked in. If the sequel can add any more than a hundred million domestic from this point I will be pleased as punch.

Some Things Never Change - This one has that Disney catchy-ness, and I swear it sounds like something from a parade at Disney World.

 

Into the Unknown - the catchy stand-out yeah, but this song? It's hard to sing! Let It Go had some tough high notes at the end, but that was just at the end. ItU takes that high note at the end of LiG and has it be sung multiple times in the chorus of the song. Let It Go was catchy, ear-wormy, applicable to many, and easily singable. This one is pretty tied to Elsa's powers lyric-wise, and a lot harder to sing if you actually want to hit all the notes properly.

 

When I'm Older - this one has the catchy upbeat tone of In Summer, good song

 

Lost in the Woods - the actual song is pretty nice, but it being like an 80's ballad feels kind of out of place (especially with the accompanying visuals).

 

Show Yourself - now THIS is the kind of "iconic singable Disney song" kind of vibe as the rest of the Disney Renaissance and the Revival have. It's incredible, easily singable, epic, and relatable without being too heavily tied to the specific character experience like Into the Unknown was. Definitely up to the quality I'd expect from the first one.

 

The Next Right Thing - I love this song. I do. But I think this song more than any other is an example of why I don't think Frozen 2 will get a sing-along release. Why? Because it's freaking depressing. The beginning lyrics especially are probably the most depressing lyrics I've ever heard (easily from Disney, possibly ever). It's slow, the beginning sounds borderline suicidal, it's just more like something out of Les Mis rather than Disney. True it gets more hopeful at the end, but considering it's the last song in the film it's a bleak one to end on and sing. This is certainly a Les Mis-vibe song, and Les Mis didn't exactly get a widespread sing-along release (it seems it did get one at some point though, so who knows?)

Does anyone feel like Disney is leaving some money on the table by not pushing Show Yourself more? Into The Unknown getting a pop version was pretty obvious, but heck even Lost In The Woods and All Is Found got pop versions for a bit of extra marketing push while there's nothing but a Lyric Video for Show Yourself. Obviously F2 is heading for a huge worldwide haul either way, but after seeing the movie it really feels like they missed the real flagship song.

Not really. Show Yourself is a beautiful song, but it's late in the movie and much more contextual. If you see it sans the movie, it's not going to have the same impact, where Into the Unknown (and Lost in the Woods), can be viewed outside of the film and still work very well, like Let it Go did.

It's funny because I actually feel that's reversed. Into The Unknown plays like a dialogue between Elsa and the voice so outside of the movie it's not quite as impactful to me, and Lost in the Woods works better with the 80's music video cut in the movie that was hilarious. Show Yourself is more like an internal monologue and in that respect I think it works better outside of the movie, but that may just be the introvert in me talking. 😄

i don't get how people say Frozen 2's soundtrack is better than Frozen. I got multiple goosebumps in theater when I listened to the songs in Frozen 1.

 

Do you want to build a snowman and for the first time and its reprise was so sisterly interactive and plot-serving for the movie while Let it Go just elevated the entire movie tone.

 

While in frozen 2, the songs worked more like a character realisation in a music video. (TGS-like sequences)

 

The songs aren't bad, just they are not integrated well with the plot.

Yeah, but going based on what you said, it's easy to see who people who heavily emotionally invested in the characters from the first movie, it would find II movies soundtrack more rewarding on a character emotion level, and not be as concerned with the thinner plot.

I rarely go twice to cinema for the same movie, but I just did it with this one. This time I saw it in English and loved it even more. Small room, great crowd, looked like everyone had a good time.

 

I want the Show Yourself sequence on YouTube now! Will go down in history as one of the best (and definitely one of the most beautiful) animated scenes of all time.

 definitely yes to a third movie, but perhaps two seasons of A Disney plus series that explores the world right after the second movie. because why have to rely on limited side plot time to craft a relationship when we can get elsamaren thoroughly explored in a TV series and have it be already there for the third movie

Not a fan of the series idea. Frozen is a juggernaut partially because of the songs, it would be very hard to create enough of them (and more importantly keeping the quality) for a full season, let alone 2.
