it's a spin off from the overrated The Conjuring..which features a side plot about a possessed doll called Annabelle..which explains the title.

 

 

oh and for the prediction..I can see 60m at least..could even go beyond 100m just because it's the conjuring brand

Annabelle opened in 23 new markets this weekend and earned $20 million. It opened well in South Korea ($3 million), and beat The Conjuring in Australia ($1.7 million), Italy ($1.2 million). It was also huge in Asia: it took in $2.5 million in Indonesia, $2.4 million in Malaysia, $1.7 million in Taiwan, $1.2 million in the Philippines and $1 million in Singapore.

Across all of its markets, it is currently 17 percent ahead of The Conjuring. That movie held well on its way to over $180 million; it's too early to tell if Annabelle can ultimately match that number, but it's certainly off to a good start.

That is crazy! I knew it would open big since literally everybody's talking about it right now, and it's crazy on social media with all those memes. But $2.5m? For comparison, The Avengers opened with $2.9m. Unlike TA, which managed to get more than 4x multiplier to become the highest grossing movie ever at the time, the legs for Annabelle won't be good. People are disappointed with the movie.

I was also suprised with the number of memes about Annabelle among Indonesians. Not sure why it's popular though, maybe Indonesians like scary doll.

The international cume to date is $60.3M with Warner Bros saying it is tracking 5% ahead of The Conjuring at the same point in its career. Worldwide, its gross is $122.4M. 'Annabelle' breaks box office record in PH

MANILA - The low-budget horror prequel "Annabelle" is now the highest-grossing foreign horror film in the Philippines.

The fright flick pulled in more than P121 million in ticket sales in its first two weeks, according to Francis Soliven, general manager of local movie distributor Warner Bros. Philippines.

The number surpassed the previous record holder "Insidious: Chapter 2," which scored P113 million for the whole of its run in local cinemas.

The current worldwide box office gross of "Annabelle," as reported by film website Deadline, stood at more than $122.4 million (around P5.4 billion) as of Sunday.

Directed by John R. Leonetti, the film revisits the doll possessed by an evil spirit seen in last year's "The Conjuring," which took in an estimated P60 million in the country.

As of Tuesday, "Annabelle" had a "fresh" rating of just 31 percent on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

"We expect to continue excellent box-office performance for 'Annabelle' as the Halloween season ushers in," said Soliven.

"The combination of an engrossing story, great filmmaking and reliable association with last year's hit horror film 'The Conjuring' propelled 'Annabelle' to succeed. The film delivered in a huge way," he added.

Warner Bros is now in with Annabelle at $19.2M from 4,395 screens in 51 markets. The international cume to date is now $92M, on par with The Conjuring at the same point in its release.

Scaring up $19.2M overseas this frame, Annabelle now has an international cume of $92M. It opened in Sweden with $423K from 52 screens and ranking No. 2 behind the opening of local family franchise Lasselmaja, and ahead of Gone Girl in its 2nd frame. The Swedish debut is 30% ahead of The Conjuring and surpassed the lifetime box office of comps Carrie, The Purge, Sinister and The Purge: Anarchy, per Warner. In Brazil, the doll was No. 1 again with an estimated $3.1M from 501 screens. It now has a tally there of $7.9M. France was a soft drop of 19% for $2.8M and a $7M cume. The UK also saw a small drop of 23% with an estimated $2.4M added from 402 screens and a running total of $7.4M. Spain and Germany were good holds with respective cumes of $3M and $2.2M. Brazil remains the top market followed by the UK, France, Korea and Russia.
