Weekend Numbers (4 day estimates pg 35)

Recommended Posts

The studio's only gonna get around 50% of that 364. So with your numbers, 182 - 178 = 4m profit (without considering marketing, which is probably around 150m too). In the long run, it'll probably eke out a profit, but not much.

Maybe WB didn't go with the full on blockbuster marketing budget of 150m.

But they probably did, didn't they? Man WB likes to live on the edge.

Also as far as comic book films go I'd have to say 2014 has been another top tier summer with GOTG/DOFP. Not quite as good as summer 2008 with TDK/IM1 but definitely on par if not a bit better than 2012 with TDKR/Avengers.

Agreed. This year was faaaaaaar better than last years( didn't enjoy any of 2013 offerings). I also prefer this years comic book movie offerings more than 2012 offerings.

Also in general, we had a ton of quality films this summer compared to last year.

It's better than 2012 as GOTG > The Avengers > DOFP > TDKR.I'd say on par with 2008. I'd personally put Guardians over TDK but quality wise TDK is better, and both DOFP and GOTG are better than Iron Man (although iron man is still fantastic). If you add to the fact that Cap 2 came out this year and Big Hero 6 is coming out later this is going to be the best year for comic book movies ever.

Yep, I weep for humanity.  Generic Marvel movie with talking tree and raccoon.

I don't get it, why do you see this as a "marvel movie" and not an entertaining sci if film? Most of the viewers didn't even know these characters . How is it generic, is it like the iron man movies or the captain America ones or even the avengers ? Oh and what's wrong with a talking tree and a raccoon, if nothing else like the Star Wars fan that you are shouldn't you appreciate these weird characters ?

150m or so is pretty standard these days.

That is an outrageous amount.

So how much are marketing budgets for the more mid-sized budgeted films? Like, would a $50 million film typically still have a $100-150 million marketing campaign?

I'd also wonder how Guardians is generic but Into the Storm and TMNT are original and inventive blockbusters.

you missed the point of the post.....it was a joke.....this is a post that is based on weeks of another poster saying the same thing about TMNT.

I don't like GOTG all that much but it has captured people's attention.  Good for it.

Once again you are making up lies.  I never said they were original.
