Mattrek
Guys read this sentence: Ghost Protocol was expected to lead the day with a gross in the $5 million-$6 million range, (some box office observers believe Ghost Protocol will do north of $6 million) These don't sounds like actual numbers to me, more like what people in the industry expected them to do. The rest of the post sounds like that as well.
Mojoguy
These are just predictions, not estimates.
TLK
Hollywood reporter's early numbers are always industry predictions and not actual estimates. Wait for Nicki's numbers. However, I won't be surprised by any of these numbers. MI:4 has been out since last weekend and Dragon Tattoo is not a tentpole movie so 5 million is a pretty good opening Wednesday. CJohn
DHD WEDNESDAY PM/THURSDAY AM: My sources are giving me these numbers for the North American box office at the start of the 5-day or 5 1/2-day – Christmas weekend. Hard to tell yet whether the holiday will bring out moviegoers but Hollywood is wincing at the very real possibility it won’t: 1. Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol (Paramount) [3,448 Theaters] Week 1: Debuted Friday December 16 in limited release; Expanded at 5 PM Tuesday December 20, Went wide Wednesday December 21 Tuesday $1.7M, Wednesday $8M (including $2M midnights), International $85M 2. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Sony) [2,914 Theaters] NEW: Debuted at 7 PM Tuesday December 20; Officially opened Wednesday December 21 Tuesday $1.6M, Wednesday $5.7M 3. Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows (Warner Bros) [3,703 Theaters] Week 1: Opened wide Friday December 16 Friday $4.3M 4. Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (Fox) [3,723 Theaters] Week 1: Opened wide Friday December 16 Friday $3.5M 5. The Adventures Of Tintin (Paramount) [3,087 Theaters] NEW: Opened Wednesday December 21 Friday $2.5M, International (Sony) $239.1M

The Dark Alfred
I don't get why MI4's Tue number is at 1.7, if they counted TGWTDT's previews towards Tue, surely they should have added that 2m for Mission's Tue. Otherwise its Wed should be over 8m.
narniadis
Good Number for MI4 and Tat, everything else is meh - hoping to see TinTin tonight but yeah no 200m there either.... might struggle for 100m
TLK
These are good numbers overall. Dragon Tattoo is probably slightly overperforming industry expectations while MI:4's opening day numbers have been impacted by its limited release schedule last weekend but 6 million Wednesday is a pretty good number in the context of this year's Boxoffice. stuart360
I can't remember what the numbers were like last year on the week up to Christmas but surely people are busy with Christmas now, people still in work, people still doing shopping etc, the weekend and mainly next week is when the numbers should be good.
