kayumanggi
I disagree. Lucy is a horrible movie. It's an interesting concept that goes nowhere. After the first few weeks, I think the rest of its leggy BO run is mostly because of Scar Jo. Come on. Seriously?
kayumanggi
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES took in an estimated $4.8M this weekend. Domestic total now stands at $181.04M. #TMNT — BoxOffice (@BoxOffice) September 14, 2014
druv10
With this hold GOTG is locked to beat IM1 and it wouldn't shock me if it actually gets close or even beats SM3's 336M+.

kayumanggi
WKND BO: #NoGoodDeed $24.5M, #DolphinTale2 $16.6M, #Guardians $8M/$305.9M, #TMNT $4.8M/$181M, Cops $4.3M/$73M, Drop $4.2M. — Gitesh Pandya (@giteshpandya) September 14, 2014
TalismanRing
Adult female lead movies tend to be leggier since they attract a larger portion of the adult female audience who are less likely to rush out on the opening weekend. Maleficent, Lucy, 100 Foot Journey, The Other Woman, Tammy - different genres and all close to or over 3 multipliers
The Futurist
There was a lot of product placement in Lucy. Maybe that reduced the budget to 40No trust me, there s an official document in France that gives the budget of every movie produced from Lucy to the tiniest french movie shot in a kitchen of the subburbs of Paris.
The Futurist
Whether Scarjo was a draw or not for Lucy is debatable, but one thing is certain, her agents will remind the success of the movie each time she s cast in a new movie and her price tag probably doubled. In Hollywood, your worth alaways comes from your last movie.
Ruthie
Lucy proves that a Black Widow movie would do gangbusters. ScarJo is a draw now. So just make that one already. Making a comic book movie simple to accommodate a female lead is just as ridiculous as not making such a movie because the lead would be female. If a BW movie currently fits into Marvel's overall plan, great. If not, no one at Marvel should go out of their way to tweak the plan just so they could make a BW movie. The Futurist
It s still funny that Lucy was succesful when the lead actress of the movie did ZERO promo. It is Besson himself which took care of it all over the world.

Cmasterclay
I don't see how Scar Jo being a draw for Lucy is even a modicum of debate. The entire marketing campaign was centered around her and her character. If it starred, say, Anna Kendrick or someone, it wouldn't have done 15 million. The poster was a picture of Scar Jo's face with nothing else! It's no debate. She's a star. Also, very solid weekend. Great for NGD. Should finish around Prisoners. With Maze/Tombstone and then the Equalizer, the rest of September should be solid.

True, but with CATWS Scarlett's name and face was already out there in a huge way just a couple months before Lucy opened and that film showed her to great affect in an action role. TalismanRing
Sin City is glorious success for Flopastan nation. Crazy. I thought it would under-perform because of the 9 yr delay and the style being ripped off so much after that it's no longer unique but it' going to make less than half in it's entire run than the first made opening weekend. Cmasterclay
Of course Scarjo is a star but the success of a movie is always a combination of multiple factors. Her fame did nothing for a difficult art house film like Under the Skin and she actually promoted this one a little bit. Prime Will Smith couldn't have made Under the Skin anything more than what it was- an incredibly small, weird arthouse release. Leo flopped with J. Edgar. Wahlberg, Damon, Gosling, and other big male stars have had countless flops over recent years. Not everything is going to be a huge hit.
