Pirates 5 will be hurt by this over MD weekend for sure. I can see it getting a 40-50M or more 4 day opening. Memorial Day is a perfect date for this as well, the start of vacations and most people going to the beach at that time, it just feels like summer at that point.

We'll see. The CinemaCon reactions weren't exactly encouraging.

Also, it's nice to have a comedy back on Memorial Day weekend.

Last comedy to open on Memorial Day weekend was Blended. Then again, that movie might as well have been called Blanded and wasn't marketed much. Baywatch will have D-Rock Johnson promoting Baywatch six ways to Sunday.

Blended, yuck. Hangover 3 did open on that weekend a year before that. Nice 50M

As well as Le Efron and his flawless biceps that make everyone want to hit the gym or something.

Unless OS push back one week.

It wouldn't make sense. They have it where it is because OS gets Guardians a week earlier so there is space for a big movie on the second weekend of May.

Once Alien announces its OS rollout plan, it will ensure other movies move around.

Too long a gap between OS and domestic release dates could be risky. Earlier OS release dates mean earlier reviews, which could backfire if it's not as well received as they hope it is.

And Alien Covenant could decide to open one week earlier OS from domestic.
