Saw this tonight and it was a good, quiet movie. I enjoyed the performances, especially Downey & Duvall. With that said, the movie overall could have been better and it would have been just as enjoyable watching at home.

No.

 

It has some funny bits in it but it's mostly a fairly serious film about a strained father and son relationship.

Solid acting, but a bit too slow/long for me.

The character writing was pretty good but I wanted to see more Downey/Duvall back-and-forths would have nice.

Overall, a pretty good film that just needed something more.

I think this movie likely really benefited from two big established Actors in it..

 

RDJ and Robert Duvall.

 

 

The story line is okay but I think it is one of those cases where the viewer (myself) likes a movie more because it is familiar.

 

I like father and Son dramas like this because it shows the great issues and problems that develop between Father's and Son's when the son grows up.

Has some clunky direction (dem close-ups and reaction shots ) but it's an enjoyable movie with a good central relationship and some surprisingly funny bits.
