PLAYMOBIL : The Movie | December 6, 2019

Recommended Posts

The film was screened at the Annecy Animation Festival for a select audience, unfortunately for me and Playmobil fans, the prediction of the most skeptical was confirmed, reviews and comments on the film are insulting, HR described the film as 'generic promotional tool without life' some comments claim to be a 'real disaster'...😢😢

It is certainly a huge step backwards for On Animation Studios, producer of the Playmobil: The Movie and also of the award-winning The Little Prince, On Animation was on the rise in the world animation scene.

I found it a big mistake to hire an inexperienced director, Lino DiSalvo had never directed anything, not even a short animation, was chosen because he was head of animation in Frozen, just for that. The director of the film would be Bob Persichetti, Oscar winner with Spiderverse, for unknown reasons was removed from the direction (better for him).

As big fan and collector of the toy, I'm going to watch the movie for sure, but the director of the film must apologize to fans for ruining our dreams.

What I'm pretty sure is the first bit of US marketing for this film is now up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JETbfEIKP_o

The trailer itself merely says that it's "Coming Soon", which made sense to me because I figured there was no chance they'd debut it at Labor Day at this point. But apparently they new date is November 22nd, the SAME day Frozen 2 comes out. I knew this film would be a bomb, but if that date is accurate, that has to be one of the biggest middle fingers a studio could give to a movie.

Against Frozen 2?

Sorry, but that screams utter disaster and I mean like utter disaster with OWend below the previews for Frozen 2, probably even less like half or so.

Also this means 2000 theatres at best.

DELAYED!!!!

After Denial, STX Moves ‘Playmobil’ From August 30 To December 6

It's SLIGHTLY better than opening on the same day as Frozen II (which I guess was just a mistake somebody made that got passed around), but either way, it'll be extremely lucky to cross the $10 million mark.

O/U Arctic Dogs?

Disaster, Now there's nothing opening Labor Day weekend.

Don't Let Go. Unless it opens limited, but it's listed as wide on BOM at the moment.

LOL at that new date. Which families are really going to show up to THIS movie in the wake of the likely-to-be-gigantic-hit Frozen II and in the lead-up to Star Wars. What a weird date. Just stick it in January (which I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see happen).
