DAR
I guess it depends on the franchise, but anything that opens to 150+ will always be good in my book
Neo
The first did 20M only with midnights. But not much growth as CF and MJI did nearly exact.
Dementeleus
I'm really surprised -- not necessarily because LA didn't seem to track for that number, but other areas also seemed significantly down from CF. I guess even though sellouts were way down, the shows were full enough to basically come out even.

JohnnyGossamer
Awesome start for MJP1. Well on it's way to $150M+ OW... Hoping it somehow manages $75M OD, including the $25.2M of course. Edited November 21, 2014 by JohnnyGossamer
K1stpierre
Wow! Is this officially??? I don't want to get my hopeS up if it isn't. I was expecting a bit over HG like 22/23ish. This is off to a great start!

Actually bigger admissions than Catching Fire when you account for the lack of IMAX this time around.

La Binoche
Frozen didn't affect CF. Frozen originally appealed primarily to kids/families in its opening weeks. Frozen came out a few days after CF and grossed over $400m. Of course it had some effect.

This is off to a great start! HG-19.74M, CF-25.25M, MJI-25.2M, down from CF, but up from HG. Edited November 21, 2014 by Neo
4815162342
Midnights are not the key. It is the Saturday and Weekend 2+3 holds. Makes sense midnights were not far off from CF.
redfirebird2008
Is anyone else reporting this number? Would like some verification of it. Tele makes good points. They had similar show counts and CF had a lot more sellouts plus IMAX. How could they possibly have come out identical? Maybe Lionsgate imitating Paramount's fudge.
Fancyarcher
Good numbers. 150m+ opening weekend seems possible. Edited November 21, 2014 by Pokearcher
DAJK
Wow! I am actually really surprised and happy with that number! I asked in the MockingJay thread if 25M was possible, but then started to doubt it as the night started. I tried avoiding all those meltdowns however
K1stpierre
I don't know about OD, but this series always had amazing SAT numbers.

I don't see the point, as overall holds would significantly be worse and total as well. Legs would look horrible with any significant fudging on previews and on OW. The Stingray
Great number! I'm hoping for the best, but I've also learnt my lesson about not putting too much stock into midnights. Edited November 21, 2014 by The Stingray
spizzer
Didn't expect this number at all considering sellout reports, lack of buzz, and lack of IMAX (this might have actually pulled larger attendance than CF). Does anyone have a show/theater count breakdown for this and CF?
narniadis
Provided these numbers are right then it's a fantastic number.
