UPI 2015 extract from press release this morning

UNIVERSAL PICTURES INTERNATIONAL (UPI) SETS NEW INDUSTRY RECORD FOR FASTEST CLIMB TO $2 BILLION AT THE

INTERNATIONAL BOX OFFICE

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA, June 11, 2015—With Jurassic World’s terrific opening on Wednesday and the early results from the film’s continued rollout today, UPI’s 2015 box-office grosses have crossed $2 billion, the fastest that any studio has reached this milestone in history.  UPI overtakes the record set by 20th Century Fox in 2010, which reached $2 billion on June 15 of that year.  This also marks the second time in Universal’s 103-year history that the studio has reached $2 billion at the international box office, besting a previous record climb set on September 17, 2013.  The announcement was made today by Duncan Clark, President Distribution, UPI.

Two thirds of that from Avatar.

I watched it and it was very enjoyable :)

Not as good as the first JP but much better than JP2 and JP3, the dinos are really impressive and realistic, you could think they're not in CGI :o

Can't wait to see its BO performance!

So we have a massive opening. I recognize that I had doubts with the billion WW. I did not think Jurassic franchise could rebound in this way. Glad to see this. With the numbers you are saying (+400m WW opening), billion should be locked. Great to see 3 billion films before half of the year.

PT: Jurassic World added 37 offshore markets on Thursday, lifting its international cume after two days to $65.6M. Universal Pictures and Legendary’s dinosaur franchise reboot kicked off in China, France and six smaller markets on Wednesday with $24.5M including previews. On Thursday, Indominous Rex & Co swallowed a further $41.6M, giving JW the No. 1 slot in all 45 markets where it has bowed. The Colin Trevorrow-helmed installment has scored the best opening day of the series in each of its plays. In the two-day frame, JW was at 13,551 theaters. It added 21 more markets today for a total of 66 territories going day-and-date with domestic where it is headed for a record June bow of $155M.

Will it beat HP8 WW total, though? Thanks to US and China, i think the odds are pretty good. $900m OS is still a lot, though, which is what it will need to beat it.

JW will kick ROTK out of the top 10 WW earners. :( Oh, well, it was inevitable due to how the WW market has grown...

IMO it's still the best movie in the Top 10 though, so that's something. :)
