Dreamworks Animation: What Went Wrong?

Recommended Posts

According to RT, that is true for Shark Tale but not so much for all the others you mention.

Well, critics were harsh to CARS ll. Very harsh. I don't know, even with MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE TO AFRICA, which is considered the best among the franchise, I fell asleep. Was just boring. Edited by kayumanggi

I know its hard but lets please try and act a little grown up with the sleeping comments.

Fine you fell asleep but the critics didn't and they are what matter in the RT rating.

Yes, critics matter if we want them to matter. CARS ll won 2011 domestically. BRAVE is the biggest animated release for this year so far. However, I have the feeling ROTG would top it.

The one place you might say that Dreamworks has any kind of edge right now is that, on average their individual films gross more worldwide when not including their 2D and Aardman collaborations (which I rather would include since they raise Dreamworks' average critical reception by a bit). However, remove just one of those sequels from the equation and that median drops below Pixar's, which stays almost the same whether you include the sequels or not.

I may be a biased, angry, extreme anti-Dreamworksist Pixar loonie, but I'm pretty confident in my belief that the numbers still back me up. It may be worth revisiting this after Rise of the Guardians is released, but I'm not going to base this conclusion on what I think might happen in the future with either Dreamworks or Pixar's films.

I've said all that I'm going to say on the matter. If you choose not to listen, you can do so but I will not be repeating myself.

It really is very sad that we've spent all this time arguing and speaking over each other that we've stopped listening to each other. I ask you to please go back and objectively read what I've been saying. And, fyi, it isn't what Whoot thinks at all.BTW, I never claimed you were anything like what you described.

Pixar was superior in the past, is in the present and probably will be in the future (mind movie+dinossaur movie against a bunch of sequels). Dreamworks is good in manking easy movies, but Pixar is exellent in making daring ones.I can‘t undestand how ONE simply movie can destroy a legacy of 12 movies.

He posted facts. Something we should acknowledge.
