I've really let this thread slide. Sorry.

Horror has been really uninteresting this year, quality and box office wise, IMO. Plus I've had a promotion at work and now don't have a lot of time.

Here's a look at 2016 wide releases, so far:

The Forest - January 8th

The Boy - January 22nd

Viral - February 19th

The Witch - February 26th

Rings - April 1st

Amityville The Awakening - April 15th

The Darkness - May 13th

The Conjuring 2 - June 10th

The Shallows - June 24th

The Purge 3 - July 1st

Lights Out - July 22nd

A Man in the Dark - August 26th

Patient Zero - September 1st

Untitled New Line - September 9th

A Cure for Wellness - September 23rd

Delirium- September 30th

The Bye Bye Man - October 14th

Underworld 5 - October 14th

Ouija 2 - October 21st

Strangers 2 - December 12th

There are currently 24 horror films scheduled for Wide release in 2016.

Twenty-four!!

No doubt most of the relativity films, the High Top releasing and Weinstein films will disappear. Some of the Blumhouse films might be hit with platform releases instead after their horrible 2015.

Huh?  How in the hell did they have a horrible year?

Jem and the Holograms, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, Sinister 2 and The Gallows.

The Visit, The Gift, Unfriended and Insidious 3 were its highlights, but even Unfriended was expected to do much better and Insidious 3 had a big drop from the last film.

Are you talking about quality or gross?

2015 The Boy Next Door Thriller $4 million $52.4 million 10%
2015 The Lazarus Effect Horror $3.3 million $64.1 million 14%
2015 Unfriended Horror $1 million $62.9 million 61%
2015 Area 51 Horror $5 million $7,556 20%
2015 Insidious: Chapter 3 Horror $10 million $112.8 million 60%
2015 Creep Horror N/A N/A 95%
2015 The Gallows Horror $100,000 $42.7 million 15%
2015 The Gift Thriller $5 million $59 million 93%
2015 Sinister 2 Horror $10 million $51.2 million 14%
2015 The Visit Horror $5 million $97.1 million 63%
2015 The Green Inferno Horror $5 million $8.9 million 33%
2015 Jem and the Holograms Musical $5 million $2.9 million 19%
2015 Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension Horror $10 million $77.9 million 11%

Jem and Area 51 are the only movies that didn't make back their budgets.  Green Inferno is the only one that made back it's budget but didn't double it.  Everything else on here made at least 5x it's budget back.  I don't know what your metric for success is, but I highly doubt they are going to all of a sudden not keep doing the same thing they have been doing.

Of the 12 movies with info included here, they cost a combined $63.4m and made a combined $631.9m.  I'm still failing to see that as anything but pretty goddamn successful.  Can any other production company say that their entire output for an entire year combined to make almost 10x their collective budgets?

You might be forgetting the $15-25m spent to release them (Domestic only)

What a rubbish year. Only two films over 50M.

And the highest grossing is M. Night Shyamalan's worst film.

You're in the minority on that one. (Last Airbender, After Earth, Lady in the Water)

Visit is one of my favourite films of the year. The  twist took me by total surprise. I thought I had thought of everything, but I was wrong. Such a fun film.
