Lordmandeep
What did people want, a story of man suffering regret and guilt and seeking redemption for all the sniper kills he achieved? Its a story of a Texan man going to battle in the defense of his country and doing so fights in the Iraq War and racks up 100's of Sniper Kills and comes home and is shot by a solider suffering stress and trauma. It shows the man had a sense of morality that was driven by 'destroying and killing the enemy' and that in the end had no real doubts or regrets killing all of those people but felt loss over losing his friends in battle. In the end, expecting some sweeping Anti War film about the issues of the Iraq war was not what audiences wanted or what Eastwood intended when making this film, and imo this was while rather average in nature was a novelty and was a reason for its success.
