Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials blazed into 21 overseas markets ahead of its North American opening next weekend and left $26.8 million in its path. The sequel opened bigger than its predecessor in each of the 21 markets and outgrossed Maze Runner by 40% across the board. The top ten openings were UK/Ireland ($4.4M and 46% bigger than MR), Mexico ($3.8M, +74%), Taiwan ($3.5M, 21%), Australia ($2.8M, 3%), Malaysia ($2.45M, 56%), Hong Kong ($2.1M), Singapore ($1.8M), Philippines ($1.4M), Indonesia ($1.0M), and Argentina ($748K, +86%).

300m OS looks like a good goal. What's the budget for this? The first one was very cheap.

I read it's double that of the first one. So $70-75m is a good bet. Not bad considering Insurgent is $110m and Black Mass is $63m. They've used their money well in terms of what we actually see on screen (based purely on the trailers).

The YA sequel stands at $30.5m and ventures into Russia, South Korea, Brazil and Spain.

I'm still not the best at extrapolating OS numbers; is this ahead of the original in any particular territories? Should it potentially match the $238M OS total?

"Among the strongest starts are Russia ($3.8M from 2,328/+19% of Maze 1), Brazil ($2.68M/961/+7%), Venezuela ($2.47M/90), Spain ($1.9M/383/+15%), and Holland ($1.18M/162/+34%)."

Not bad I guess! Not giant increases, but I'm glad it's doing well obviously ;)

Venezuela:

TMR OW: 27,000 adm ($0.48m) (Total Admissions (369,000) ((estimate) $6.55m)) (Ticket Avg $17.74)

TMR: ST OW: 50,150 adm ($2.47m) (Ticket Avg $49.25) (WTF! :o)

Admissions: +85.74%
