2017 & Beyond Discussion Thread | Is 2017 (Summer) Bigger than 2016?

Recommended Posts

The schedule more than a year out shouldn't be taken too seriously. Studios often set far off dates for projects that haven't even reached pre-production status and could still very easily get canned or delayed. They're not really under any obligation to stick to a date until they start their marketing campaign

He's a pretty shitty analyst if he thinks World War Z 2 is coming out next year

Deadline, like most times, is fucking horrific and I would trust 50 posters on here before any analyst they dig up.  Lol that he has WWZ2 coming out in 2017.  LOLOLOLOL

Wall Street in general doesn't know about how movies will perform.

Guggenheim Investments thought that Zootopia would make $300m worldwide, lol

Studio Entertainment received a surprise tailwind from the theatrical performance of Zootopia ($806 million global box office to date has well exceeded our $304mm initial estimate, with the film still yet to premiere in Japan).

I guess they just looked up Bolt and The Good Dinosaur on Box Office Mojo and though "Yeah, that sounds right."

I just noticed that there are, as of right now, FIFTEEN animated films scheduled for 2018:

  • The Croods 2 (Jan. 5)
  • Gnomeo & Juliet 2 (Jan. 12)
  • Early Man [Aardman] (Jan. 21)
  • Smallfoot [WB] (President's Day Weekend)
  • Larrikins [DW] (Feb. 16)
  • Wreck-It Ralph 2 (March 9)
  • Peter Rabbit [Sony] (March 23)
  • How To Train Your Dragon 3 (May 18)
  • Toy Story 4 (June 15)
  • The Secret Life Of Pets 2 (July 13)
  • SCOOB (Sep. 21)
  • Hotel Transylvania 3 (Sep. 21 - you didn't read that wrong, SCOOB and HT3 are scheduled for the same weekend rn)
  • How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Nov. 9)
  • Gigantic (Nov. 21)
  • Spider-Man (Dec. 21)

If at least half of those don't move to 2019 and beyond, this is going to be the bloodiest bloodbath ever.

What's a SCOOB?

That Untitled Disney live action film coming currently scheduled against Jumanji is likely " A Wrinkle in Time" which is getting ready to start filming. They should probably move it to another date  though because Jumanji will certainly kill it.
