Honestly not too interested in 2017

Fast 8? Pirates 5? Transformers 5?  DM3? These movies don't seem interesting and their box office performances are fairly predictable as well.

Still, there should be a few interesting box office trajectories to follow...

What about SW8, BatB and GOTG2? like the most awesome movies of the year.. .and Dunkirk and Wonder Woman and War of the Planet of the Apes and annihilation.

It's a good thing I like Disney then :D.

In ten years there will be 12 Marvel movies,  six Pixar movies, six Disney animation, four Disney fairytale live action, three Star Wars, one Disney live action blockbuster a year, and One a PotC. All in one year.  This will be the only movies.

My predictions of the top highest grossing films of 2017:

1. SW: EP8 $1.7-2.2B WW

2. Justice League P1 = $1.3B WW

3. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 = $1.2B WW

4. Furious 8 = 1.17B WW

6. Pirates of the Caribbean 5 = 1B WW

7. War of the Planet of the Apes = $850-1B WW

9. Spider-Man (2017) = $750-800M WW

10. The Croods 2 = $680-765M WW

Other potential hitters:

World War Z 2 = $610M+ WW

Dunkirk = $500-600M+ WW? :thinking:

EDIT: Avatar 2 has been moved to 2018, instead.

I feel they should introduce one more DC characters like Flash or Aquaman before Justice League, but hey.

These Wonder Woman numbers are huge!

I'm not getting my hopes up though. We've got very little to compare it to.

I was quite shocked with her appearance in BvS. Probably is more realistic to think in low 200s, but I have high hopes for this film. Btw, I am thinking in high 500s/low 600s for the worldwide figure, similar to IM1/IM2.

Sweetheart, Diana has been one of the very few things that not only left unscathed after BVS, but made people more excited for her film than before. Same thing as the Batfleck solo outing. And w/Patty Jenkins (not Snyder) in the helm, it has potential. If it's good, it'll climb those heights.

Oh yeah, excited for some of these titles, really excited for Apes 3, and Guardians 2, but I still like 2016's slate better, plus even for the films that I'm looking forward to, in terms of their box office performances, it is probably going to be fairly predictable, I know exactly how Pirate 5/Transformers 5 is going to perform, I know Ape 3 will do well but will not explode in box office, I can guess how much Guardians 2 is doing to do, there is almost no doubt about EP8 getting both domestic and global crown now that Avatar 2 is out of the picture. I feel we won't be getting much Deadpool/TJB/zootopia level of surprises, or BVS level of disappointments next year.

I remember reading about annihilation, Alex Garland did really well with Ex Machina, so yeah, definitely something to keep an eye on!

Maybe, but BO is extremely unpredictable. everyone thought MJP1 would crown 2014. and American Sniper came out of Nowhere. and there were surprises like GOTG and The Lego Movie really breaking out.

SW EPVIII and Beauty and the Beast is reason alone for me to look forward to 2017 more then 2016.

True, hope we'll get some surprise breakouts next year to make things interesting!

I generally agree with most of your list but, you think Wonder Woman will gross less than $120m?

Alien: Covenant vs Pitch Perfect 3 will totally be the Mad Max: Fury Road vs Pitch Perfect 2 of 2017.

That is, assuming Covenant, unlike its predecessor, will actually be good

Prometheus has an atrocious 3rd act and still made $120M+

So maybe they learn a few things

Whoops!

Wonder Woman - $185 million

Just move PP3 to #21 and that's my top 20 for 2017 right now

what about Cars 3, Pirates 5, and the next Kingsman film, under 120 M material or left out ?:P and also Blade Runner 2, unsure if that is still coming out next year though.
