PADDINGTON 2 BREAKS A ROTTEN TOMATOES RECORD

Quote

Paddington 2 has become the latest movie to top Toy Story 2‘s Rotten Tomatoes record, notching the most consecutive Fresh reviews without a single Rotten write-up. As of this writing, Paddington 2 has 164 Fresh reviews, versus Toy Story 2‘s 163.

RT's methodology for their top 100 really doesn't make sense to me. I know higher review count plays a big factor, but it still doesn't make much sense. Zootopia and Coco ranked higher than TS3 for example, when TS3 has way more reviews, a way higher average rating, and even a higher tomatometer than both? Same scenario for something like Wonder Woman vs The Force Awakens. Seems like it highly favors releases from the past 2 years for whatever reason.

So many real old movies in it. I too wonder how they can even compare those reviews to the reviews of these days.

Don't they explain their methodology anywhere?

Basically it just says it's a weighted formula that accounts for variation in the number of reviews per movie. Also that each critic from their "discrete list" gets one vote weighted equally. So I suppose that means they only count certain critics? That would explain it I guess.

It has a weird methodology you basically have to be a statistics major to grasp. Eg. Wonder Woman is listed as its best reviewed SH movie even though it doesn't really feel like that in the real world.

Finally saw this today, it was so sweet and heartwarming and just as great as the first. The team behind these are so daggum creative. Had me in my feels.

Very disappointed in the box office and that America would rather watch a Nick Jr rabbit shove carrots up people's asses, but it is what it is. I'm sure it'll be given new life on Netflix.

Best film of the year. I'm sure overseas gave it just enough for us to get a final movie to make this the best trilogy since Lord of the Rings.
