JohnnyGossamer
It's obviously done very well. I don't expect any aside from fools to dispute that. Though, with that said, I'm rooting for legendary weekend to weekend drop. What's the biggest weekend to weekend decline for a film that opened $80M+ DOM? Though, with that said, I'm rooting for legendary weekend to weekend drop. What's the biggest weekend to weekend decline for a film that opened $80M+ DOM? DH2 fells 72%. Various Twilight films fell around 70%. Outside of those, the biggest drop is X-Men Origins Wolverine, which fell 69% from an 85m weekend. Valentine's Day fell around 70%, too. (Not 80m+ but it's comparable.
baumer
I don't see any reason for it to fall more than 65%. I could be wrong.
grim22
50 Shades was a monster in terms of presales according to Fandango's weekend breakdown. Fandango said it sold 29% of the opening weekend tickets for “Fifty Shades of Grey,” marking the largest share of receipts for any movie released in its 15-year history. That number does not take into account the Monday holiday. The previous record holder was “The Hunger Games” in 2012, with Fandango accounting for 22% of that film’s domestic opening weekend. The bondage-themed romantic drama also has the distinction of selling the most tickets on Valentine’s Day for Fandango and being the top-selling R-rated movie debut for the online ticketer. It also enjoyed the largest percentage of mobile tickets sold on a single day, with 65% of ticketing transactions on Saturday being made on smart phones or other devices. Jandrew
^ Wow I thought Fandango and MT played a bigger role than that. Only a quarter for Fandango? Surprised.
lilmac
Twilight sunk Summit, that is why they had to be bought by Lionsgate And Harry Potter bombed so hard WB greenlighted a trilogy of prequels based on something JK Rowling is writing or whatever that is I fell for this. *sigh*
grim22
^ Wow I thought Fandango and MT played a bigger role than that. Only a quarter for Fandango? Surprised. Everyone always guessed that online ticket sales don't make up a large component of the box office, but never got exact percentage from Fandango. First time we are actually getting one for quite some time.
lilmac
50 Shades was a monster in terms of presales according to Fandango's weekend breakdown. No one wanted to publicly stand in front of the boxoffice counter and announce "One ticket for 50 Shades of Grey please"
