The Patriot with Mel Gibson did well, and McConaughey is about as big as Mel was back then, so this will do well imo.

Mel was much bigger then, he was a superstar. His name sold tickets in various genres.   McConaughey has one recent big box office movie as a lead and that was Interstellar and more about Nolan.

MM is coming off an oscar win and a lot of high profile films.  His drawing power is quite high now, imo.

And nice of you to adjust the numbers.  Adjusting them means nothing.

Of course it means something when dealing with 15- 20 year old movies.  It's a fast way to provide context otherwise I'd have to list what each film made that year then list the top 10 films to show what they made that year as well which would be a royal P.I.A.  Or we could all pretend that movies are so much more popular and attended now than they've ever been before and that GOTG was bigger hit in 2014 than Star Wars in 1977

MM's drawing power is at the highest level for him it's ever been and he has far more respect now than he ever has before but no way is he anywhere near Gibson in his prime.

Ok, I agree with you.  I'm just saying I think MM will get people into the theater to see this.

But adjusted numbers really don't tell the tale. Outside of Lethal Weapon his films did well, but far from box office giants.
