Sorry, but what are you trying to say?

That Chinese audiences are partial to effects heavy films.

But we're sort of in the age of the spectacle, every market it partial to them at the moment. American Sniper aside all of the top 5 domestic were effects heavy/ spectacle films.

Coinciding with its domestic debut, Chappie opened in 53 international markets and earned an estimated $13.7 million. It took in $2.1 million in Russia, $1.7 million in France, $1.5 million in the U.K. and less than $1 million in Germany; none of those numbers are particularly strong.

That's just terrible.

Wow, that is indeed terrible.

Chappie:What went wrong? Sony's terrible marketing(misleading ads and trailers), mixed WOM, odd similarities to other movies like Appleseed and Short Circuit, and the usual "what the hell is this movie?"

Also, the marketing hides that those two st00pid and horredous and dreadful " musicians" are the co lead of the movie.

Don't forget, CJohn and Ethan were looking forward to it, it was Ethan's most anticipated movie and CJohn even enjoyed it a lot - that is this forums' equivalent of a kiss of death.

See yet ;)

Yep I agree, then it was not a (movie) franchise in my opinion too, latest after Avatar 2 I think it is a movie franchise.

Maybe a while after the release with so many t-shirts, books,... = a bit of a franchise for that sole movie

We probably should define the intent behind the word "franchise" in this conversation.

A lot of movies become part of a franchise later, but are not helped when they open in theaters by having an audience pre-made for them.   So while Avatar will eventually become part of a franchise, that really has no bearing on its box office.

AS is an average film, its only Americans that think its great

This sounds like you think the opinions of "Americans" don't count.    If a group of people think a movie is great...then it's certainly not "average" to them.

I wasn't looking forward to it. The 2nd part is correct, tho. Edited by CJohn

Not really, Ethan loves Transformers and say what you will but they make fuck tons of money. Maybe a kiss of death for how good it is in your eyes, but not of boxoffice.
