That was one of the main reasons I actually liked the film.

I hope someone would also adapt Ted Chiang's short story "Tower of Babylon", in which a miner ascends the fabled tower in order to break through the vault of heaven. It's one of the best stories I have read in recent years and would make for a mind-blowing and visually stunning sci-fi film.

What do you think of its Oscar potential? Do you think Adams or Renner have a shot in their categories, and is it possible that this movie will be one of the BP nominees?

It's not for everyone because there's no "shoot-em-up"/alien invasion silliness.

But then again ID:R didn't do well because it was derivative and this is a very original film.

It's less simple than Martian though. Needs the audience to think.

Amy was beyond fantastic and her performance got great ink from critics. Loved her in this. A very emotional role.

Renner was OK but didn't have anything to do Oscar wise.

BP could happen if it continues to have its passionate supporters. It will not be a crowdpleaser shallow film and because it's intellectual/emotional, it needs passionate support to get this nom. Reviews are already there (78 now on MC and 100% RT) so it's just a question of how much passion can bring it there.

Passion gets you a nom, Consensus gets you a win

US auds are open to cerebral sci-fi as long as it's transparent about it

this has an indie feel to it, I doubt the US auds are going to embrace it in any big way. 

 

we should be expecting a ~20m opening and ~80m finish, that would be nice result imo.
