That's great for Cinderella! It's opening march, so for a march opening that's still excellent! I've been hearing good things from it, so I think legs could be huge for this.

Disney’s “Cinderella,” the live-action update of its classic fairy tale,  brought in  $2.3 million at the box office in Thursday night preview shows.

That’s less than $4.2 million that “Maleficent” conjured in its Thursday showings on its way to a $69 million debut last May.

 

But it’s more than the $2 million that “Oz: The Great and Powerful” brought in, and that one wound up at $79 million in its first weekend in March of 2013

 “Cinderella” cost $95 million to make, roughly half the cost of Angelina Jolie‘s “Maleficent.”

I think this will have a higher OW than Oz, or right around there. This is so going to draw in the kids and families, not to mention frozenites. Big weekend here: I'll say OW anywhere between 77M-88M.

With a $95m debut and a Oz drop, It could make almost $50m in the second weekend..

I'm really curious if it will top Maleficent's total though, even with a higher OW. Mal had a 3.5x multi in summer, so great WOM, despite the RT grade.

this has way better WOM than Maleficent. imo it could open lower and still outgross it, plus much less competition for Cinderella.

Solid, IMO. Looking at a 15-17M OW.

What? How do you know? You do realize Maleficent had CRAZY WOM to reach that multi, right, especially with all the competition.

The only thing in Cinderella's way is possibly Insurgent, but I doubt it'll do much to it. This movie should have a nice long run.

I think Cindy is gonna en up at about 80-82M for the weekend, and Run All Night could hit 14-15M, if it builds WOM over the weekend.

And that 2.3 is even more impressive when you consider that OZ was buoyed by 3D.
