Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse | 12.14.2018 | Sony | Phil Lord and Chris Miller

Recommended Posts

Seems like before it came out people was trying to write it off saying that the general audience would not get into this animation style or that it was just for comic book Geeks. Now look at the film. It's doing great at the box office and it's about to win the Oscar for best animated film. What Went Right.

Random, but the live version might be one of the worst performances I've seen in a while.

I am not a fan of the song or the performers. I have no idea what about the song screams "Spider-Man" but whatever. I am definitely not a teenager, therefore not the target demo.

As expected, this film managed to get nominated for Best Animated Feature. With that being said, do people have any opinion on Sunflower not getting nominated for Best Original Song? I don’t have any real thoughts on the matter, I’m just curious about what people think.

I wouldn't cry about it, Don't get me wrong; "Sunflower" is an excellent song. It's one of the best tunes I've heard from Post Malone, and it encapsulates the running thread of the 'coming-of-age story' that permeates the film. It's very playful and catchy. But if we're talking about the Oscars, I'd rather see songs that have a grander sense of theatrical importance; that's why I find myself wanting to see songs from musicals more often than not, and why I celebrate nominees like "The Empty Chair" that happened two years ago. "Sunflower" doesn't feel, lyrically, like it really ties into its film the way most of the other nominees do. That's kind of where I stand on it.

I would have preferred What's Up Danger, but since neither of them were nominated, it's not a concern anymore.

Most over-rated movie of 2018, with The Favourite and Roma.

Great movie it is.

Mona Lisa of Superhero movies it ain't.

You're the only person I've seen say that, maybe it's not overrated but just not your type? Did that thought ever cross your mind? It's totally fine if you dislike a movie that's genuinely good or do you actually care about people blaming you over bad taste because of that?

i think overrated is always kinda dumb but it's always at its dumbest when people say "it's good but other people should like it less! overrated!". maybe futurist is mad cos he was going on and on about how the public rejected this film's disgusting animation but it's had great legs, i dunno.

Ya, how is it a sole nomination in best animated category showing that film is overrated?

Holy webshooters, my local theater is giving its premium format screen (Cinemark XD) to Spider-Verse for the entire week before Lego opens, starting this Friday!

If a few other theaters do that, we could be looking at one last week of great holds before Lego destroys it. (And in the old what-goes-up-must-come-down category, that means the drop when Lego opens will be even uglier!)

I guess they figured two weeks for Glass was enough, and people had more than enough time to go see Aquaman in that format, so they're giving Spider-Verse one last swing.

Note: it's still playing on a regular screen too. So Glass will be down to one screen and Spider-Verse will be up to 2 screens for the entire week. :jjjlaugh:
