Weekend Thread | Weekend Estimates: PP2 - $70.3M, MM:FR - $45.5M, TA2 - $38.84M

That would be disappointing....

It wouldn't hit $40M with that............

Oh I wasn't talking about Mad Max. OP said to say a number for Friday. Today is Friday 15 May, so I said 15.

UPDATED, 1:06 PM: Matinee estimates from both Mad Max: Fury Road and Universal’s Pitch Perfect 2 are right in line with what we have below, at the moment, with the female-driven PP2 holding Mad Max away from the No. 1 spot. It is extremely early right now but PP2 could take in around $20M today with Mad Max behind it, grossing in the mid-to-high teens.

So i went a bit further into detail by counting MM and PP2s sold seats in 4 different Arclight-cinemas and thats what I got:

Mad Max:

Chicago: 2/4/26/6/0/0= 37
DC-Area: 11/11/68/26/25/34/4/0/0 = 149
LA Sherman Oaks: 31/22/34/28/103/34/142/355/94/89/38/81/9 = 1060
LA Passadena: 10/54/10/75/14/120/177/45/98/19/69/7/4 = 694

Pitch Perfect 2:

Chicago: 17/33/61/17/123/0/38/4 = 293
DC-Area: 22/78/69/60/177/87/200/91/77/79/22/15/0/0/2/0 = 979

LA Sherman Oaks: 30/44/20/30/228/66/149/152/369/165/215/39/4/3/0 = 1514
LA Passadena: 9/22/23/12/89/43/45/59/259/254/54/20/88/0/2 = 979

Blue = 50%+ Capacity
Orange = 75%+ Capacity
Red = 90%+ Capacity

Hope you liked it, maybe we can have a look at future releases there, too.

If Mad Max doesn't make money with legs, GA are broken.

After seeing it, I'm not certain how well this will play with the GA. Two friends that were totally new to Max didn't think much of it. I, a Max fan, liked it a good deal. And, two Max fiends were so drunk on the awesomeness and I was worried about them driving home after the show. I know anecdotes mean nothing, but I'm curious how the GA responds. I really hope that they lap it up.

Out of curiosity, why aren't you counting the Arclight Hollywood? It's probably the biggest-grossing Arclight theater (in general).

(Admittedly, counting seats in the giant Dome would be a time-consuming nightmare).

Good work Poseidon.  I can't believe you had the patience to count all those seats.

My fiancee and several of her friends are making a Girls Night of PP2. As are several other groupings of ladies I've heard about that I know.

The male side for MM:FR just isn't doing the same in quantity that I know of, not like they did for AoU.

I'd assume if PP2 had a 20m OD it'd be performing similar to neighbors or the Great Gatsby which would get it around 49-53m OW

Mid to high teens should get MMFR to around the high 30s to high 40s.

Actually, that's the reason. Counting the Dome would take hours and with a single auditorium, being so much bigger than the others, it probably would be useless for a statistic anyway.

Yeah, it's a lot of work.

In our German board, we have a guy, who does this every day for more than 20 theaters over the weekend and we have become incredibly good in predicting movies OWs there.

Of course, it's a lot easier for us in Germany, as pretty much every theater has reserved seats (you don't even have to buy them, I have to pick up my tickets 10 minutes before the movie starts) and so you can count those numbers as you like.

Are people completely numb to great action these days? Or do people just not know what great action looks like. I'm not sure how anyone wouldn't be sold by those set pieces unless they're just not into action movies anyway.
