Btw, the Minions trailer killed. Monster hit incoming.

It's almost scary how fast the Minions have invaded world culture. They were nothing in 2009, and now they have 2 movies, one almost made $1 billion, their own section in a theme park, their own blimp, they play to young kids and older adults, and their merchadise is EVERYWHERE. Walmart, Target, Old Navy, hell I even bet Hot Topic has Minions stuff. No matter where I go, I see Minions products. I haven't seen a character invade this fast since well...another yellow guy: Spongebob. Spongebob premiered in 1999 and by 2001 he was a marketing machine.

The key here is obviously to make your characters yellow. Minions will be huge. Major win for Universal. And it doesn't even matter how good the movies do because they've already made billions on merchandise in just this short time. Awesome.

Quite easily, yeah.

I've seen 2001: A Space Odyssey in cinemas this year... this will be quite a challenge for Max

Possible records for PP2 to break:

-Biggest opening by a female director (50 Shades of Grey) - Unlikely but could take 2nd place ahead of Twilight

-Biggest opening directed by an actor (American Sniper) - Not happening

-Highest grossing movie directed by an actor (Passion of the Christ) - Not happening

-Highest grossing movie directed by a female (Alvin 2)

-Highest grossing movie directed by an actress (Unbroken?)

-Highest grossing musical (Grease)

-Biggest opening for a musical (HSM 3)

Plus it'll probably be the highest grossing movie in all its' stars careers save for Banks. Records are Into the Woods for Kendrick, NATM3 for Rebel, and True Grit for Steinfeld.

Really?

Yes. The stars have aligned for both. Everything from Universal's momentum to JW and it's brand identification opening by itself after nothing major launching over Memorial Day. Both are primed to smash.

Ummmm a project plagued by almost 15 years of development hell that is coming off a terrible third movie, no it will be a smash hit lol.

And what exactly did Star Trek, Fast & Furious, Batman Begins, Man of Steel etc follow?

Can you read?

So you are saying because it's a reboot of some movies that made $ in the past it will be a relative hit, both in comparison to previous JP movies (considering adjusted totals as well) & other films this summer. So again what is your point because using those examples mean nothing.
