Disney has Marvel money to burn and it's fair to assume even more capital to toss at creatively risky original fare with Star Wars money forthcoming.

Even if they have to write Tomorrowland of ala Lone Ranger or John Carter, they aren't worried.

The assumption that 200m flops is ok for Disney because they have marvel Star Wars Pixar is ridiculous or because Disney is this mega giant empire ( which it is).

Plus they bought these IPs for Billions of dollars so they are not making any money with any of those brands yet.

That seems to be the case with every Disney film including the hits.

It's pretty much the case with almost every major studio big budget "blockbuster", not just Disney. They'll always downplay the budget, especially when they think the film's going to flop.

People seem to want to downtalk Tomorrowland, had it been San Andreas scoring that number everyone would be saying its a good number for the theater count (which it is). It's not a great number but its not an OMG flop number either, especially for a family movie.

It being a family movie is going to play well and give it strong legs till Inside Out. (Maybe Jurassic World if it's taken as such)

sorry guys that number for Tomorrowland is poor considering the huge budget and the fact overseas numbers are looking poor as well

I heard a lit if people today at school talking about going to see “That George Colony movie"

There's probably alot more people living in George Colony than people who will see Tomorrowland, really.

Really for Tomorrowland considering it's very large budget that's horrible and Poltergeist that's not bad for a horror film although it looks frontloaded it should at least be appealing to audiences

Yeah, considering the budgets, Poltergeist is going to be a much bigger winner than Tomorrowland regardless of how much Tomorrowland actually beats Poltergeist by.

Guys if we used budget as the template for success for every movie you get into a huge margin of error considering the full cost of many of these projects is never disclosed. I just don't think it's the end all be all, you think Disney doesn't already know they overreached on this one? So having said that the $700k+ preview # seems to be ok, it's not awful considering it's still a school/work day for many today before a long holiday weekend.

The budget is the only information we have to base success/failure on.
