THE SUICIDE SQUAD | August 6 2021 | James Gunn writing and directing

Recommended Posts

The fact that she mentioned the private parts in her tweet lol. Some people are easily offended.

But the film is rated R and called “The Suicide Squad”. I’d agree it’s a hard R though. It’s earned.

I’m more concerned that this might open lower than Space Jam 2.

TSS should've had Lebron James as Rims McDonald, a Squad member who quits on the team to join Starro.

I just don't get why people listen to Trace Dandruff. Terrible person who adds nothing to the discourse. Not to mention annoying if one is foolish (or masochist) enough to try to listen to her talk.

She’s really reaching for negatives if the worst thing she can bring up is the incredibly brief nudity in the film. The way she’s acting you’d think James Gunn did a Game of Thrones and showed a full frame penis for no reason.

I am glad the tracking thread was locked. It should stay that way. Anyway just to provide a quick update. OD sales on MTC1 is up though its still below presales(but it has an extra day). Its at 29538/847459 476286.40 (4405 shows). Optimisticallly I am expecting close to 80K-90K PS before friday start and I think that should be sufficient for low teens friday. I think this wont go below Space Jam but its skewing MTC1 and so we could see it disappoint despite good numbers at MTC1. But keep fingers crossed that great reviews should help with walkups. At least stay optimistic until release :-)

Man, there’s optimism and then there’s “should be sufficient for low teens Friday.”

I *hope* so but I really think you’re just setting people up to be disappointed here.

Either way, great to have MTC1 numbers, thanks for stopping by.

3x T-2 to final PS. 👀

I think even JC in MTC 2 didn't do that.

Edit: Yeah JC3 Friday did 2.3x from T-2 days. 60K may be final PS in MTC1 optimistically for TSS I suppose.

WB has made a terrible job both marketing this and releasing it it seems.

Like 3 days before release and there is no add or talk for a movie that is universally praised and has some big IPa plastered all over it.

And still in Greece for example my friends tell me that there is a 19 August release date but none of the theater chains have ot on their coming soon schedule so everyone i know (and wants to see the film) will see it on streaming. And it's a bummer... as many have mentioned, it's a film that I would watch on a huge ass screen on a theater.

D Shows - 15/368 (4.08%) $292

All Shows 1536/18301 (8.39%) $32,946

Also note that I treated any shows I couldn’t access as sellouts (if those are cancelled shows looking more like a $25,000 total) and using adult price as ATP so this likely isn’t perfect.

And here is my regular Albany cinema with comps at the bottom

Quote

Albany Event Cinemas, New Zealand - The Suicide Squad Opening Day (12 hours before release)

10:30am VMAX 7/185

12:15pm 9/216

1:30pm VMAX 4/185

2:45pm VMAX 4/133

4:30pm VMAX 9/185

4:45pm GC 0/40

5:45pm VMAX 10/133

6:45pm 20/216

6:45pm GC 24/30

7:30pm VMAX 38/185

7:45pm GC 16/40

8:45pm VMAX 8/133

Total: 149/1681 (8.86%)

Won’t do $ figure comps as average ticket price has increased but here are some other films 12 hours before release, this is just more a sense of hype check in NZ:

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood296/2230 (13.27%)

IT 2 - 502/2530 (19.84%)

Joker - 446/2756 (16.18%)

WW84 - 734/2416 (30.38%)

Hobbs and Shaw - 361/3560 (10.14%)

GVK (18 Hours before, had previews night before) - 149/2067 (7.21%)

Doesn't seem to be doing great but much like Domestically hopefully walkups are strong.

Blaming marketing is not right when literally it has one of the biggest marketing campaign during such times. Neither BW, F8 or QP2 got such campaign ,to be fair they were delayed a lot and this was fresh but doesn't that give movie more advantage??Most big movies so far were delayed and had prolong and hindered marketing.

Biggest factor is lack of interest even if we subsidize for covid and HBO MAX.  I am surprised about this but will wait what people have to say in weekend thread to understand and give my opinions on what happened.
