Apparently the writer from Warrior is also penning this. Charles Roven returning to produce.

Nice. He was one of the WW producers too. DCU full steam ahead. Batman is being outlined now we only need to hear an announcement for the MoS sequel

Didn't the fire skeleton dude die?

In the comics he's possesed by Chutriel, a fallen angel, and can only die when it decides to find another host (rarely happens). He also has the power to resurrect, as demonstrated by when Deadshot shoots him in the head several times, per Amanda Waller's orders, and he raises up from the dead. He only stays with the Squad out of remorse for his past misdeeds.

Basically, unless Chutriel decided to find a new host after the explosion than Chato/El Diablo is still alive.

If it makes for a better movie to involve him, they should do that.

And it's not like superhero movies are overflowing with Latino representation, and WB specified in one of their quarterly reports last year that the character attracted Hispanic demographics to movie theatres, so unsurprising that they want to bring back one of the elements that actually worked.

Anyway, assuming this starts shooting in the next few months, are they looking at another August release here (2019 in this case)?

Looking at start of production in fall after Smith wraps Gemini Man, according to The Wrap

Quote

“Suicide Squad 2.” This would be the most obvious place for the former Dr. Harleen Quinzel to pop up. Gavin O’Connor is expected to write and possibly direct the film, which could go into production in the fall after Will Smith wraps on his clone assassin movie “Gemini Man.” One reason “Suicide Squad 2” has the best odds is that the film may serve as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s introduction to the DC Universe as the super-villain Black Adam,  two insiders familiar with the idea told TheWrap. Charles Roven is the lead producer on “Suicide Squad 2” and welcomed Mike Deluca who recently came on board the project to produce as well.

The insiders told TheWrap that the current plan for the sequel is for the members of Suicide Squad to be tasked with tracking down a weapon of mass destruction. That weapon? Black Adam himself. The villain is best known in DC Comics as the main nemesis of superhero Shazam.

That and given that it's a comic book movie, it wouldn't exactly be unheard of for a character to come back to life.
