Killimano3
I made a list of the highest grossing films subtracting China not long ago but some of the numbers were a little off and I didn't really update it. So I managed to find most of the numbers I was previously unable to and construct a more accurate chart. This one I will constantly update as well. I was unsure of whether to put this in the Chinese or International sections as this is sort of specifically without the Chinese numbers but I feel it still pertains to China if that makes any sense. I'll leave it to the Mods to decide whether or not to leave it here or to move it. Gokai Red
Good work man. I do think that some time in the near future, a movie's grosses should be separated into DOM, China and the rest of overseas. It really is interesting to see how much one country can affect the numbers so much.

Cynosure
LOTR being 9th is just so impressive given how strong the dollar was back then.
Master Scottb
What's most impressive to me is Titanic. It's been almost 20 years since it came out, and to date only 1 movie has beaten it's OS and WW totals with or without China. Even if you don't count its 2012 reissue, Titanic's $1,242.4m OS total and $1,843.2m WW total would still be #2 with FF7's OS total being $89.1m short.
Omni
HP1, RotK and Frozen are easily the most impressive non-Cameron films at the top of the list.
Cynosure
HP1 came out when much weaker currencies were used in the Euro zone too. The Euro increased OS grosses in Europe by quite a margin. For example in France not one of the highest grossing movies in $ came out before 2002, even Titanic the highest grossing in admissions from 1997 isn't in the list. It must rank quite high there. Anyway, you are right relative to weak currencies, mainly in 2001, where films like HP1 and FOTR were massively affected. IMHO, HP1 is, excepting Titanic and Avatar, the most impressive OS run ever.

Anyway, you are right relative to weak currencies, mainly in 2001, where films like HP1 and FOTR were massively affected. IMHO, HP1 is, excepting Titanic and Avatar, the most impressive OS run ever. Hype also was off the charts. i remember seeing a tv program where a host asked the questiona fter its OW if its beating Titanic in domestic 🙂

charlie Jatinder
Over a billion dollar for Avatar is from Europe. I don't think any film could possibly beat that figure. Overall $1.82 Billion can be crossed in future with growth of Asia, look out for (Saudi Arabia) but Europe will always stand. For beating that, you need atleast 130mn footfalls with current ER and sort of ticket prices, which, well are next to impossible as Titanic is the one at peak with 115mn. Even Avatar at current ER and ticket rates will be around 70% of what it did in 2009.

It had the best ERs and the explosion of 3D (what was a James Cameron's merit, being fair). I can not imagine a film making $110m in Spain. The 9.5 million admissions sold, 2nd best number ever, mean today about $70m, a 36.5% lower than the official data.

Isn't Avatar's 2010 jan equiv of 200m in China like atleast a billie today?
