Just got back from Baahubali. Holy shit!! For my first Indian movie, it was quite the experience. It's unlike any film I've ever seen. It has elements of Star Wars, Indy, The Bible, Matrix, 300, Braveheart and LOTR to name a few. I loved the hell out of it and i left the theater with a big grin ion my face. This was only the Beginning. The conclusion comes out next year. If I was to rate it, 9/10.

Glad you liked it! I'll be be watching it in Hindi in a few days so I hope it holds up as well as it does in the original language (Telugu).

IMO they could have released a dubbed version in English to reach a wider audience. It's had the biggest OW for an Indian movie ever and it might become the highest grossing Indian movie of all time which is batshit crazy for a non-Bollywood movie!

I love Bollywood. I never see enough of it. They don't hold up to our kinds of criticism standards (in that they always meander and the plots are usually irrelevant) but Khan movies like Main Noon Ha are some of the most entertaining things I've seen.

I really didn't know that Prabhas had that big a fan base, or Rana for that matter. Sudeep has been promoting it in Karnataka apparently.

What? Maybe it is plain boring to you, you ever think of that?As for well received by the audience, are you kiddin me? Minions already made more than IO WW, it had incredible drops or openings everywhere. You are the only blind person here. And yeah, it will beat IO DOM. Get over it. The better movie wins.

I'll fully admit the hypocrisy and ask if you've seen Inside Out. Don't think you have so how can you say the better movie wins?

(I'll just say here that I think Inside Out's trailers were more appealing to me than Minions so I don't get people asking "How do you know, Blank, that Inside Out is a better movie than Minions? Huh?" :P

I almost went to see Genisys or Minions tonight but plans fell through. Hopefully will catch Minions at the drive-in with Pixels next week to kill two birds with one stone

Doubt I'll ever get around to Genisys though...

Awesome! I have very little experience with Indian film viewing myself, but this one really caught my interest. Definitely want to check it out.

The thing about the film is, it's like watching a 1930's pulp film (if that makes sense ) or a grand epic from 80's.  It's one of the most visual films I've ever seen, in fact, I can't think of a film that is visually more impressive than this.  And the director uses every single Hollywood trick in the book, and it works, every single time.  There are several slow motion shots of the hero coming out of the water or the rain and shaking off the wet from his hair.  Mouth agape while the rain or the water flies off in slo mo.  It sounds like it would be cheesy and I guess it is, but it just works here.  Then there's actually shots of muscles bulging and breaking beads and there are feats of strength reserved for a God and so on.  And then at the end of the film (don't worry, there are no spoilers here) there is a speech given by a Queen that explains why she made the decision she did and what separates a soldier from a king.  It might as well have been written by Nolan or Randal Wallace on Tolkien.  It made me want to stand up and cheer.  This is a grand spectacle and it's a film Hollywood used to make and doesn't anymore.  I can't wait for the conclusion.

I've seen a lot of Indian films. Most of them, especially the big ones are like that, old school with cheesy slo mo and sometimes ridiculous scenes, but very entertaining. I guess this one is the same but in more epic scale. I agree, I think you would enjoy Dhoom series and Salman Khan films. They do often ignore script and logic. That's why personally, I'm more of an Aamir Khan fan, since his films usually have great scripts, but still commercial with mass appeals. Aamir Khan's last 3 big movies all broke the all time box office record in India. I hope they release Baahubali here too. You made me want to see it.

MMXXL still have a good rebound, drop only 47% Sunday to Monday. The smallest drop in the top ten.

Such a perplexing run for that one. The first was an original film that opened huge but had no longevity. This one is a sequel that opened small and is apparently having fantastic legs. Doesn't make sense quite honestly.
