Weekend Estimates: Ant-Man 58.04 | Minions 50.24 | Trainwreck 30.24 | IO 11.66 | JW 11.36 (Page 88)

The rumored Chinese release dates for movies is somewhat hilarious. China wants Hollywood movies to cannibalize each other and flop by the looks of it

Non-official release dates:

T5 around Aug 25

Pixels and Minions around Aug 27

MI5 and IO around Sep 11.

Pixels and Inside Out will both flop horribly if those dates stay as they are since both Minions and MI5 can do 150M in China (MI4 and DM2 both made around a 100M).

Better than what BOM was listing for IO as Sept 1st.

Kinda crappy that Disney, or any studio in fact has nearly zero say on when their film gets released in China... but that's China!

A Black Widow/Hawkeye movie sounds super boring tbh.

Actually, I think a movie about them would be exactly what MCU needs, because it'd be completely different. It'd be more a spy movie than a super hero movie. Those two aren't superheroes like Iron Man or Thor, they're spy/assassins so you'd have lower stakes. They don't fight Thanos to save the universe, they fight third-world arms dealers trying to steal a nuclear bomb. Maybe Klaw before he becomes a supervillain. It'd be perfect as a palate cleanser post-IW.

So Minions cost 75 mill to make and has made 650 mill WW so far.

Why are people cramping on it again?

Because it didn't open with 300 million (and it will end up with less than 2 billion).

So it would be like a big budget Agents of SHIELD episode.

I've always thought a $50-60m budget movie with some of the side characters could be fun. They don't all have to be tent poles and make a billion dollars.

Something that was pointed out in the JW thread - it's now the highest grossing 2015 movie both dom and WW. FF7 will keep the OS honors.

Should be interesting to see the estimates as we get closer to SW. Personally I think JW will keep its title WW, while dom will really depend on how good TFA will be. If it's great and has very strong WOM, it might win the domestic crown. What's certain is that it's going to be interesting to watch.

Marvel phase 2 movies previews to weekend multipliers

Iron Man 3, 15.6M, 174M, 11.153 ratio

Thor 2  7.1M 85.7M 12.07 ratio

Cap 2 10.2M 95M  9.4 ratio

GOTG  11.2M  94M   8.6 ratio

Avengers 2  27.6M  191M  6.9 ratio

Ant-Man  6.4M 58M   9 ratio

Post-Avengers, Marvel movies have got more and more frontloaded to previews. Even Ant-Man will most likely end with less than a 9 multiple from previews when actuals come out.
