They apparently made the first movie from scratch in about 2 years, I imagine that if a sequel gets made, we could see it in 2019 or 2020.

An Emoji Movie sequel was dated for 12/25/19. Tony Leondis is to return to both write and direct. Interestingly Micheal McCullers (from Boss Baby and Austin Powers) has been added on to write.  T.J. Miller is confirmed to reprise his role as Gene.

Smurfs3 did 197 ww and this one is at 204 ww. Their prod budgets were 60 and 50 respectively. Both from SPA.

Emoji didn't even release in China. Else it could have gone over the 226m ww of Baby Driver to become Sony's biggest Hollywood film this year behind Homecoming.

However in comparison AB did higher than both of those and that wasn't an official SPA movie. However SPA has a decent looking 2018. Peter Rabbit seems likely to do solid numbers and will be a great counterprogramming in February ($40M/$115M/$250M), HT3 will scare up some business ($45M/$135M/$500M), Goosebumps 2 (if not moved) might be a casualty ($20M/$70M/$130M) and Animated Spider-Man will make nice cash ($35M/$150M/$310M)
