Scott Rosenberg has just been tapped to do a rewrite on the redo ofJumanji for Columbia Pictures. The project is considered a high priority for the studio as they plan to have it set for release on Christmas Day next year. The project, produced by Matt Tolmach and Bill Teitler, is said to be a re-imagination of the original Chris Van Allsburg book about a board game that comes to life.

Rosenberg’s credits are very well known and he is versatile in comedy and action and is also adept at adapting books which makes him kind of the perfect scribe for
Jumanji since the project encompasses all three of those skill sets. He has written everything from Beautiful GirlsThings To Do In Denver When You’re DeadHigh Fidelity, Gone In Sixty Seconds and Grasshopper Jungle (a YA novel about high school teenagers who fight for their lives during the apocalypse).

Since this was mentioned in the Golden Globes thread, I looked it up only to realise it is supposed to release this Christmas. That is almost surely not going to happen, especially since it doesn't yet have a script, director or cast.

Please for the love of whatever let someone with a brain cancel this.

Jake Kasdan will direct the reboot of Jumanji that Sony Pictures has set for a December 25, 2016 release. Matt Tolmach is producing. Kasdan will direct a script by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, latter of whom last worked for the studio on The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Their script is based on draft by original writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and the whole thing is based on the Caldecott Medal-winning adventure book by Chris Van Allsburg.
