But all the hoopla over being more diverse in casting in these movies did the movie no favors by casting Jrodan and made it bomb worse than the 2005 movie which everyone bagged on to...

It didn't bombed because of Jordan. It bombed because the movie is crazy bad and the marketing after the teaser wasn't good either.

this is the most annoying thing about the film being a flop. it makes the racist haters think they are right.

They will stick t the comic the way it should've been...

There's some guy in the Fant4stic thread ranting about how it flopped because it diverged from the comics and annoyed the fans

People are going to read whatever they want out of this situation, always do out of a big bomb

Michael B. Jordan is one of many problems in the film. The fact is, his casting did not, in any way, help the film. His casting hindered the film. Whether you like it or not, this is a fact. There is zero evidence to show that his casting helped the film in any way.

It's not about racism. This is purely about a dramatic, radical divergence from the source material. For example, casting a Latino actor would have been closer to the source material.

But Tree, it's not racist, they just want the reboot to be faithful to the original source material!

(Despite the fact all comic book series are retconned to death.)

TS3 and Frozen are both poor films. Minions is at least good.

To be fair, I do not believe that racism toward people of color motivated everyone who was having a problem with MBJ. I am pretty sure some of the same people lost their shit about the rumors that Shredder was going to be William Fichtner instead of being Japanese. (And I've read some analyses of the final cut that theorize that this may not have been an inaccurate rumor, that the Fichtner character and Shredder may have been one and the same during principal photography, and it was changed in reshoots.) Hell, some of the geeks complaining about that accused Bay/Liebesman/etc. of racism/whitewashing over those rumors (though not sure if it was the same people).

And I also think there's probably overlap with the people upset over Helen Mirren as the Ancient One - which doesn't fully fit the "geeks are all racist/sexist" thing, because it's both a complaint over a male character becoming female...AND an Asian character becoming white.

Some people are just utterly stubborn about source fidelity, and tone-deaf to the fact that it makes them look racist.

Why is it a "radical divergence"?

The fact that they apparently gave MBJ very few lines and didn't let him play a charismatic, snarky character would be a radical divergence

That's never what these people mean

It performed fine for a comedy, it just had a lot more money spent on it than usual. Comedy brands are a bit rocky, they can be very of-the-moment.

in comparison to the first film making 218 million and over 500 WW. It's a dissapointment plus with P&A costs at 125 million and just less than 170 WW it's rough.
