Also doing quite horrible this weekend:

Sony Classics' DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL expanded into moderate wide release in 795 theaters, grossing just $425k ($535 per).

Why did SPC give this a wide release, especially after those weak limited numbers? I'm gonna assume it was part of a contractual obligation they had fulfill after they picked it up at Sundance because they never gave much more buzzed and commercial-friendly titles of theirs like Whiplash or Rachel Getting Married such treatment.

That and it was probably a  time of the year conducive to them getting that many theaters - there's not a lot of competition out there right now even on the Indie scene.

I was the only one in the theater at my showing. I definitely understand why it's not finding an audience.

Fun fact: Minions' 8th weekend was higher than DM2's 8th weekend. Since last week, their tracking was identical.

DM2 gained 15 million from that point on. If that happens for Minions, it would be interesting (340m). It is unlikely though due to DM2 staying in cinemas until December.
