If only Everest, Black Mass or The Walk had opened late August... seriously, any of those three would have been a welcome addition to the August lineup. Other than Compton, the landscape was barren.

It's definitely solid. Should end up with $45-50 million DOM on a $3 million budget, with potential for $55-60 million, if its legs really catch on through September.

Wow, 3M budget is great. Did it have much marketing?

Not really. War Room got a lot of free advertising from pastors and social media. The Kendrick brothers don't exactly have the money to create elaborate ad campaigns, so their marketing is very grassroots/WOM.

Late August has been pretty bad partly because some films, i.e. Regression, Masterminds, Underdogs, etc. have dropped out quite last minute and only War Room stepped in.

I seriously think Everest would have filled the gap perfectly.

Is War Room another one of those shitty religious movies?

I hope MI:5 has enough gas left in the tank to make it to $200M.

Sad to see Diary of a Teenage Girl flop like this. Great movie.

Mistress America had great potential but the movie is all over the place so no wonder it went nowhere.

Go Grandma!

Hmmm, IDK, War Room has direct competition starting on Friday:

Not a huge theater count but look at what WR did last week with just 1100 or so locations.

Wow, 3M budget is great. Did it have much marketing?

Some on OWN for sure, probably other stations geared more toward black/Christian viewers, but the bigger thing is that it's the same team that did Fireproof and Courageous, so they have a following among their target audience. Variety called the Kendrick Brothers "the Steven Spielbergs of Christian cinema".
