I don’t like to see JLaw naked, I don’t know why, it’s like seeing my sister naked, lol. I was so embarrassed when she showed her boobs in Mother.

That wasn't exactly sexual, but yeah.

I don't know if she'll be naked or not but they are making such a big deal of the R rating... we'll see. It would certainly be in keeping with the character.

I can't imagine how they can avoid nudity.

The book has graphic sexuality so I guess sex scenes in the movie are going to match.

They may well, but there is still oblique vs full on nudity.  She was 'naked' but for a thong in Passengers, for example.  I'm certain the sex scenes are going to be much more... um, active, than that! Still, I don't know how the nudity will be played, precisely, is all I was saying.  Glimpses between furniture or outright showcasing? I don't know.

A lot of actresses speak of avoiding nude shots these days not for their artistic portrayal of a story and character in a movie, but because they are isolated as screen shots and passed around the internet and end up on porn sites etc.  Given Jen's history of invasion of privacy, I wonder more about how they will treat nudity in her case than I would bother thinking about for most actresses.

I just saw the trailer over at YouTube. I'm not combing through 27 pages, surely someone has noted the rip off, from the trailer at least, of Black Widow. Sure seems someone is trying to do Black Widow even if Marvel Studios/Kevin Feige won't.

A lot of people are saying that. Others note the times she is blonde and say it is Atomic Blonde 2 (despite this being completed before that came out). I think people are so used to seeing guys in these action roles they don't notice how very many male action heros with similar roles there are out there, and focus a great deal on similarity between female action heroes.

Still, Black Widow is a special case because they are both Russian ex-ballerina operatives who use seduction.  The fact is, that happened in REAL LIFE so obviously people draw from it.  The author who wrote this book some time ago was a past CIA operative and he focuses more on intrigue and spycraft, but I can't say if he read and liked Black Widow as a kid or not. I don't know if Francis Lawrence (who got Jen involved) and Fox recognized the similarity in the stories or not, and recognized an opportunity. As for me, I didn't even know Black Widow had been a ballerina until Jen did this project, and I like Black Widow! - But I only know her from the movies.

I think we will hear a lot of Black Widow surrounding this movie.  I hope people who want a Black Widow movie will like this one!

Did Marvel's BW invent Russian Ballerina-as-a-Spy trope or was it based on something like a true story? The critcism reminds me of Battle Royale/THG one where BR fans were acting like BR invented dystopian battle to the death subgenre where in reality it existed way before that book.

The woman turned spy/seductress/assassin by force circumstance but she still like the lifestyle trope is a rather common one,

La femme Nikita of Luc Besson is a big classic of the genre that share a lot of element, I am not sure how well known the Black Widow character is outside comicbook fans ?(not a big reference but I have no idea about her story line).

Looking at the wikipedia page, one notable difference is Black widow is a 60s cold war fantasy spy (a bit like Salt was), Red Sparrow is a Vladimir Putin era more grounded in reality one with a list of difference that come with that.

I don't think the ballerina thing is that important. Female spy using her body to get information is an old concept.

Yep.

Isn't that like one of the oldest things ever?

Wasn't the bible's Delilah pretty much a spy who used sex to find out a secret (Samson's source of strength) for which she was paid (by the Phillistines)?

Reading up on this book it doesn’t sound like something that would be released in March, honestly it sounds interesting but could easily be turned to something boring.

Isn't that pretty much true of anything?  Particularly things that don't even sound interesting to begin with?  I guess I just hope it's a good script.  From the story, there's no reason it shouldn't be...

Why aren’t they advertising the trailers as “from the writer of A Cure for Wellness?”

Because nobody saw it, this ain't quantum physics
