GODZILLA vs. KONG | March 31 2021 | Adam Wingard to direct

Recommended Posts

Taking the "Spring Break" week right before Easter is making the holiday play again (week before and week after Easter are the normal 2 biggest spring movie going weeks).  If there's any theatrical money to be made in the early spring, this will be it...AND it will also be the time all families are again looking for the "family" event, ala Trolls going big in 2020...

I mean, the last only made $110M DOM, and this wasn't ever gonna go higher, especially in the Covid or post-Covid environment, so it won't lose much releasing here...and HBO Max could again gain a ton, now going after a different demo...

I assume that WB just wants this thing to get this whole franchise over with at this point.

Pretty obvious this was done to have another BIG budget film on Max relatively close to WW84, so they don't bleed too many subscribers. AT&T are banking on this + Snyder Cut in March. We'll see.

This was supposed to come out in March of last year originally so it's likely been in the can for a while. With the deal with Legendary now done there's no use sitting on it much longer, so might as well just get it out sooner to give theaters in states/countries open something to show while providing a big tentpole for those still stuck at home to watch.

Before Mortal Kombat eventhough that film has already had more marketing than this?

There's an opening in the schedule after Morbius was delayed and No Time to Die is expected to be delayed any day now. Was probably easier to book IMAX/PLFs (wherever they'll be open in late March) that way.

Also Many Saints of Newark moving to Sept.

And I'm sure someone already mentioned it here - this will surely benefit Asia/Pacific

Godzilla had certainly has shrunk since 2014.

I can't quite tell is they're standing on the aircraft carrier or behind it. If it's on it Godzilla has definitely been shrunk down a bit.

Although it's probably that thing where the size is ever-changing throughout the film, entirely dependent on what they need for the scene. Which has happened often in monster movie history.
