As for the GvK trailer, I got major Pacific Rim Uprising vibes from this. Emphasis on Uprising.

The music choices were similar but the action looked much better than that one. It had better be lol.

Why do they bring these monsters to cities. Why can't they fight in some desert. I am very distracted by destruction porn in such fights.

Destruction porn is the point of monster movies. Would be stupid to set the movies in a desert or somewhere.

I was watching Godzilla vs Kong old one, that seem like far from civilization in the climax fight. there were small establishments but seems to evacuated.

 

I don't think Kong vs Lizards of Skull Island was stupid fight, it looked far better IMO.

Monsters in cities is just part of the genre. Seems like this movie has a mix of all of that... cities, land and sea.

I read somewhere that staging fights in tropical islands/empty landscapes was much more budget-friendly than building miniature cities for 2 guys to wreck. 
 

Makes sense especially when you look at the 70s Godzilla films (with smaller budgets than the 60s films) where the final battles happen in empty plains.

Uprising had some of the blandest and ugliest cinematography I've seen in a major blockbuster. This film at least looks competent.

It's not surprising that not only Kong Skull was better than other Monsterverse movies but it trended really well in most places. It was received very well , specially in the intense competition in 2017 with so many good and trending movies. I really want that type of movies more.

It was so entertaining to watch that.  Kong really was given a good story. I don't understand why they didn't follow that path when audience loved.

Why did they time jump?? I would have loved to follow from there with mix of old and new characters.

Cuz desert is boring. Fight in a jungle would be best option, but you have to render CGI forest, which is more expensive than city.

What I'm really hoping for is that a good chunk of the action is presented from ground level, not just the CGI aerial shots.

 

One of my favorite aspects of Godzilla 2014 (which I consider far better than most give it credit for) was that the action was primarily presented through the eyes of the humans on the ground, until the end clash. It helped sell the scale of what we were witnessing. I have yet to see KOTM, but my impressions from the trailers were that the action would have very little human POV. That's the same impression I get from this trailer. I just re-watched the main trailer for the first Pacific Rim. Full of ground-level shots. That's what really sells the action.

 

Also, the more I watch this trailer, the more I dislike it. As far as these MonsterVerse trailers go, it's the laziest in execution. Both trailers for Godzilla were masterclasses in building suspense and dread (credit goes to Alexandre Desplat's music and Bryan Cranston's acting). Kong's trailers had that rocking 70s war film vibe and a lot of charismatic actors having fun. KOTM leaned hard into the operatic vibe, and while the quality of the cinematography is up for debate, its nonetheless memorable.

 

This trailer for GvK is just lazily edited, without any memorable acting, cinematography, or music. It's just bland.

This isn't going for Godzilla 2014 tho. I actually liked that this one dropped all the pretense and just made it clear that this shit is going to be dumb, cheesy fun. Was laughing my ass off at that needle-drop. We just want to see two big boys fighting and the trailer sells it purely on that, which is fine.

We probably don't have enough data to say this yet but I honestly feel like this movie would've grossed more than WW84 worldwide (which if I had to guess would've grossed $600 mil at best) and would've been WB's biggest film of 2020.
