Yeah, I actually thought about while watching it. Seems like a weird thing to watch in a post-Info Wars/Qanon world, but this film was shot in 2018 so I guess it's just bad timing

Even back when this was shot, Info Wars and QAnon were already fairly prominent.

Hopefully we get another Kong sequel after this. I kinda doubt we get another Godzilla Legendary film given KOTM underperformance.

Should try for 3 more. Kong 2, Godzilla 3 and Destroy All Monsters. Legendary has nothing else anyway

Meh, I thought this was a bit underwhelming. The fights were cool, but saying "well the movie knows that people only want to see the fights" isn't really an excuse to have really lame overstuffed characters and bad writing. 

 

I guess if you want to JUST see some fights, you'll love it. But I found myself rolling my eyes one too many times.

If Beale Street Could Talk and Atlanta beg to differ, he’s a genuinely very good actor when working with the right material. He’s also great in the role of Miles’s dad in Into the Spiderverse, the scene where he’s talking to Miles through the door gets me choked up every time and it’s all because of his heartfelt performance.

 

I wouldn’t judge anyone too harshly for their performance in these Monsterverse films, Kyle Chandler is a great award winning actor and he was terrible in KOTM, but he can only work with what he’s given and we all know that these aren’t exactly the best written films.

I'm mixed on the film, I enjoyed most of the last half though (which is much more monster focused). Overall an improvement on KOTM, Wingard has a better grasp than Dougherty on directing the CG fight sequences. I don't think that quite makes up for everything else in the film though. 

 

I'll probably watch once more before my rental expires and make up my mind.

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would going into it after absolutely despising Skull Island and KOTM (I turned that one off after 70 minutes). The fights are fun and reminded me of Pacific Rim in the way they were filmed, which is a marked improvement on the dull, low visibility, CGI mess fights in what I saw of KOTM.

The human element really does let it down though, there’s absolutely no reason for disaster movie characters to be this bland and uninteresting, I mean just look at something like Independence Day or the original Pacific Rim which had memorable and fun characters around the destruction porn. There’s a decent way to tell a human story around these fights but they just can’t seem to crack it with these Monsterverse films. I know people will just say “but you’re here for the monster action”, and while that’s true, I don’t see why we should have to settle for terrible writing just so we can see a giant monkey punch a radioactive lizard. You could cut Millie Bobby Brown, Bryan Tyree Henry and Julian Dennison out of the film entirely and literally nothing would change, they serve absolutely no purpose.

 

Overall it’s mostly fun when the monsters are front and centre, but it stalls drastically whenever they aren’t, and I still think there’s massive room for improvement.

This movie needed a lot more hollow earth. That was easily both the most visually awesome and conceptually cool bit in the whole movie.

Instead of Kong climbing out of the hole, Godzilla should've jumped into the hole and there should've been a big fight in hollow earth.

Boy am I glad I just watched this on HBO Max so I could just fastforward to all the fighting scenes and skip all the absolutely painful human scenes. I tried watching this movie straight up for about the first thirty minutes of it and that was all I could take of the non Godzilla and Kong action.

 

I realize that a lot of people are just watching this movie for the Kong and Godzilla action anyways but trying to sit through the rest of the movie is extremely difficult in my opinion and really brings it down.

Those two and Millie Bobby Brown (who was absolutely terrible...”we have to help him!!!”....sit down little girl 🤦‍♂️) didn’t need to be in the film at all, you could remove every single one of their scenes and it wouldn’t affect the end result of the film at all.

Pouring a drink on the computer control panel that’s linked to Mechagodzilla would do absolutely nothing too. If I pour a drink on my PlayStation controller, it doesn’t break my PlayStation...

 

It did make me laugh though when all it does is make Mechagodzilla’s lights flicker slightly.

Honestly, having slept on it, the fights almost blind you to how badly written the rest of this is.

Gonna see it later today. Yes or no question...the after credits scene of King of the Monsters showed smugglers delivering one of King Ghidorah heads to the terrorist dude. Was that just a scene that went nowhere, or does that factor, in some way, into Godzilla vs Kong?
