Godzilla KoTM got 386M worldwide, getting up to the same level during a freaking pandemic while offering it on streaming is just amazing.  Not a particular fan of the franchise, but I'll root for anything to do well at this point.

Turning a profit on a blockbuster released in theaters during a pandemic has to have Legendary chuffed as hell.

Enjoyed the action. It was obvious to me that Godzilla > Kong but enjoyed the human/kong and kong/godzilla interplay. A fine conclusion to the King of the Monsters trilogy. My concern (esp. after the recent boxoffice results) is that WB will overextend themselves and greenlight more sequels.

I'm surprised this movie didn't make more money in China. Don't they usually love monster movies? Meanwhile, a movie called "Hi, Mom" somehow made over $800 million on a $59 million budget.

It could have done a bit more perhaps but "Hi, Mom" is not a good comparison as that was a local film. For a Hollywood movie its gross was fairly high, though not as big as other markets might have suggested.

It'll be a digital purchase only as HBO Max isn't available in France.

It's basically at 300M International, same as Tenet finished with. Does this prove the international  market has not recovered at all since Tenete's release last year? Except China, where it tripled Tenet, GvsK earned way less in the rest of the world. Has the international market regressed? This is not good

Of course the international market has regressed since then. Most of Europe which was open has closed again, some parts of Asia which were open are closed again. South America is pretty much in the same place. 

 

It's a vicious circle - theaters need movies, movies need theaters, but no one is willing to take the first step.

Settle down a bit, GvK has yet to open in Japan and Brazil...those could combine for $40M.
