Godzilla did 75-80 in China in 2014.

Kong did 165-170 in 2017.

Hopefully KOM can replicate Kong this year.

WB's Rampage and Meg did 150-160 last year so things looking positive for them and KOM.

Gavin thinks Godzilla 2 has $250+ million potential in China. That would probably put $800+ million WW on the table.

I'm fine with this date. It could change of course, but it should have plenty of clout. Plus, we know that months don't really seem to have as much of an impact on the box office anymore.

People will flock to theaters in February if the movie is big enough and Black Panther proved that.

Godzilla 2014 didn’t even get a full release in China did it? It got a shorter run due to Transformers 4 IIRC

So Godzilla 2014 could’ve done even better had it been given a full release

March is lately given the attention it deserves. Especially March 2017 showed the potential of the month. With Spring Break and the Easter holidays, it can be a goldmine for the right films.

Kind of like August, but the studios still seem to mostly hate that month for whatever reason.

Yet, August is again filled to the brim with titles this year. August is like that shelf where you put random shit until you know what you're going to do with it. August has the films that actually go there, but it also has a bunch of movies that studios don't know what to do with and will likely move again when they figure it out.

17 films scheduled for August so far:

Yeah, but only Hobbs and Shaw is a "biggie" amongst them. TMNT and GOTG showed in 2014 that two big films can perfectly coexist in August, so i fail to understand why we're not seeing more tentpoles in that month, considering other months are packed.

Agreed. Universal will be quite content to dominate August with Hobbs and Shaw and nothing else in its way.

It’s a little crazy how this movie had been scheduled for to be released in May for the past three and a half years, yet it has now moved to an earlier date because of the 10th film in a franchise that’s currently running on fumes (no pun intended).

Id guess it moved not because of the DOM market but mainly the OS ones. F&F is massive overseas and could have easily crushed GvK.

Now, both films have room.

A Trailer is definitely coming at Comic-Con, maybe even a small teaser before that at the end of the credits for Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Post credit scene of KOTM will probably be King Kong

Spoiler

swinging his massive Ding Dong to please David Ehrlich

A post credit TRAILER after GKOTM for GvsKong would be pretty cool. Any film ever do that?

Cap 1 had an Avengers teaser trailer as part of it's post-credits bit. TASM2 had a post-credits DoFP ad at the end of it during it's theatrical run
